Congratulations are in order to WIFT Australia member Emilie Lowe who has become the first cinematographer from WA to win the prestigious John Leake OAM ACS Emerging Cinematographer Award.

The prize, which spotlights bold, emerging talent behind the camera lens, was awarded to the young cinematographer at the Australian Cinematographers Society’s National Awards in Adelaide, a celebration of the country’s finest visual storytellers.

Emilie's ambitious body of work includes her debut feature ‘The Canary’, a raw, two-hour independent survival drama set in the 1800’s; ‘End of the Line’, which was recently screened at the WA Made Film Festival; and internationally award-winning short ‘Where Dead Things Grow’.

Emilie is currently in pre-production on her next feature, the quasi-western monster thriller ‘Dead Centre’, set to shoot across the rugged, untamed landscapes of rural WA.

Congratulations again Emilie! 🏆❤

🎀MEMBER GIVEAWAY🎀

Thanks to our partners Luna Leederville, we have 10 x double passes to give away to a special invite-only screening of Sophie Hyde's JIMPA this Saturday 14 February.

When: Saturday 14 February
Time: 10.30am arrival for an 11.00am film start.
Where: Luna Cinemas, 155 Oxford St, Leederville
Tea/Coffee/biscuits served from 10.30am (while stocks last)

From acclaimed director Sophie Hyde (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande), JIMPA is an uplifting multi-generational family story starring award-winning favourites Olivia Colman and John Lithgow. Hannah (Colman) travels to vibrant Amsterdam with her teen, Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde), to reconnect with her politically-engaged, gay father— affectionately known as “Jimpa” (Lithgow). Frances is besotted with Jimpa and announces they wish to stay with him for a year – to Hannah’s apprehension. Jimpa is fiercely independent, so it is a shock when his declining health is revealed, upending Frances' plans and bringing Hannah’s sister in from the UK. As the siblings negotiate what happens next, Hannah must confront her past and the stories she has told about her family. With warmth, humour and joy, JIMPA reminds us that, in every family, there are stories that don't add up.

HOW TO REDEEM

The first ten members to email [email protected] by 9pm Thursday 12 February will receive the double passes. These will be redeemed at Luna Leederville on Saturday morning by providing your name to the Luna team who will check it off the guestlist.
