You might think a $4 donation isn’t significant, but it means the world to us. With $4, we can cover the cost of planting one tree, and each additional tree is a step forward in the fight against climate change.

How? Every native species planted improves soil quality, reduces erosion, provides habitat for native fauna species, and absorbs more carbon emissions, ultimately contributing to a cleaner planet.

Take a look at the difference your donation can make in this image, in just a few years' time. Don’t sleep on it, take action now.

Thank you WA today for including us in your recent article "How tiny Japanese ‘pocket forests’ could cool Perth’s sweaty suburbs" 🌱🌳

Originally developed by Japanese ecologist Akira Miyawaki in the early 1970s for Nippon Steel, Miyawaki forests have been adopted around the world to help offset rising heat in the suburbs.

The WA Government is developing a new ‘Urban Greening Strategy’ and is seeking input from the community about how to promote and enhance tree canopy and greening across the Boorloo (Perth) and Bindjareb (Peel) regions. 🌱🍃

We have created a guide to help answer some of the questions raised by the survey. 📝

The guide advocates for the adoption of the powerful Miyawaki community forests as a fast and tangible solution to combating the widespread impacts of urban heat. While protecting existing mature canopy is imperative, we need additional and innovative approaches to urban greening. This includes expanding the scope of urban forest funding to encompass innovative techniques like Miyawaki forests.

These pocket forests serve as an excellent example of how innovative planting techniques can enhance urban greening efforts and provide numerous benefits to the community.

We are very impressed with the results of this Miyawaki forest at East Butler Primary School in just 7 months!

This pocket forest was planted in July 2023 by Dr Grey Coupland from the Harry Butler Institute.

We are looking forward to planting many more Miyawaki forests this planting season! If you would like to support these projects please visit our website to make a donation today.

Did you know we have now supported the development of 12 Miyawaki pocket forests across Australia? And the good news doesn't stop there - we're planning to plant 7 more in 2024! 🌳🌳🌳

Over the last few months, a dedicated group of volunteers, led by our partner Brett Kraus and his team, has planted 10,000 native trees! A few fun facts about this planting site;

🌳These trees were grown locally from seed.
🌳A tropical lowland forest, situated on Djiru Land within the Cassowary Coast Regional Council
🌳Critical habitat for the endangered Spectacled Flying Fox and Southern Cassowary.
🌳Will help restore and rehabilitate degraded habitat, as well as improve habitat connectivity.

We look forward to watching this Miyawaki forest flourish over the next couple years and sharing it’s journey with you all. 🌱🍃

If you would like to know more about the concept of Miyawaki’s and the projects we are supporting across Australia, message us! You can also can also find out more on our website here: https://hubs.la/Q02jr4Nh0

Do you want to fix our urban heat problem? 🌆 🔥

As becomes even more pervasive, so will the occurrence of extreme heat events that have been found to pose serious and disproportionate health risks (AIHW, 2023) to our most vulnerable populations.

Planting trees in urban areas has been found to reduce urban heat. The fast growth rates of can mitigate urban heat impacts and uplift in community well-being. 🌳

How can you help?

There are huge opportunities for organisations to collaborate and partner with communities across Australia to plant trees and build resilience. Pocket forests are a great way to develop initiatives that are aligned with your organisation's ESG goals.
