Caity (Co-Chair) and Sophie (Community Officer) recently represented Rural Health Positive at the National Rural Health Student Network (NRHSN) Council 2 in Brisbane, on the traditional lands of Turrbal and Jagera/Yuggera. The weekend included valuable professional development sessions, with guest speakers sharing their journeys from student to working professional. Discussions highlighted the importance of leadership and the profound impact of having First Nations role models and visual representation in health professions. The workshop also focused on positive leadership and practical communication skills.

In addition to the formal sessions, the event provided excellent networking opportunities with other rural health clubs and allowed for some new innovative ideas for our student body in 2026. The second day started with further learning on how to facilitate cultural safety and awareness for our First Nations communities.

Our Vice President, Mikki, and Secretary, Shristi, also attended in their roles on the NRHSN Executive Committee. They provided key updates on the First Nations Future Rural Health Professional Program (FNFRHPP) and the National Allied Health Placement Poverty Survey, respectively.
