Ocean Grove Coastcare

Ocean Grove Coastcare A volunteer group passionate about protecting and enhancing our beautiful coastal region. We also work to support the Plastic Bag Free Victoria campaign.

Coastcare is a welcoming community of volunteers who are passionate about protecting our coastline. Ocean Grove Coastcare is one of over 2000 Coastcare groups across Australia working towards keeping our coast beautiful for future generations. We work closely with local land managers and our community to address environmental issues such as sand dune erosion, loss of biodiversity, pest plants, res

ponsible pet ownership and access to sensitive coastal areas. Ocean Grove Coastcare is a great way to meet new people and get involved in your community. We do loads of fun activities like film and social nights, planting native plants, removing weeds, picking up litter and organising/running community education events. There’s always something for everyone to get involved in and we are always looking to expand our group of volunteers. So please come join us!

World Environment Day planting:
22 enthusiastic volunteers were greeted by a lovely sunny morning at RAAFs on Sunday.
With guidance and assistance from Barwon Coast staff, Bailey and Greg, 200 indigenous grasses were planted along the dune and roped off.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and made the morning such a success.
In time, our hope is that we can return our dunes to their natural state, providing suitable habitat for our wildlife and a resilient coast for all!

We are weeding Terracina Spurge at Bukareyoo THIS Sunday!!

We'll be back at it again on Sunday 24th May and we'd love you to join us!

Unfortunately this plant has a significantly irritant sap which means this weeding is not a suitable activity for children, but our underage coastcarers would be welcome to come along and with their adult guardians and collect rubbish from this beautiful piece of coast. Rubbish removal is very important for regeneration as well!

Date: Sunday 24th May
Time: 10am - 12pm
Place: BUK110 (previously known as 20W) - last car park before the BH bridge (look out for our sign!)
Bring: We will provide gloves and tools but feel free to bring your own along

One Planet Festival
Despite the early rain, marquees bloomed and crowds came to the One Planet festival, held in Ocean Grove on Saturday 28th March.

Thanks to the organising efforts of Parents for Climate dozens of stalls were present, together with speakers on topics as diverse as youth panels, Farm My School, Doctors for the Environment and others. There were many wonderful activities to keep kids engaged including the perfectly simple idea of playing with sticks in nature play.

Coastcare members had many great chats with people about our upcoming Nature Strips project and other ways to get involved in helping our coastal environment.

Thanks to all who attended, learned and volunteered their time.
