Barossa German Language Association The documentation, maintenance and revival of German language use in South Australia's Barossa Valley and beyond.

The Barossa German Language Association (BGLA) aims to revive or renew German as a community language. It supports documentation or recording of German speakers' life experiences, and at social events offers informal conversation for speakers to maintain German. It holds cultural events to promote German language use in the region, including regular Kaffee und Kuchen gatherings for seniors. The BGLA encourages the learning and revival of German for both young and old.

At the last meeting of the German speaking group Kaffee und Kuchen, the guest speaker was Dr Aaron Humphrey, lecturer in Media at Adelaide University. His topic was the cartoons and comics produced by two of the internees at the Holsworthy German Concentration Camp during World War I.

Join us for BGLA Kaffee und Kuchen this June (as always, last Monday of the month).
When: Monday 29th June 2026, 12pm (lunch) / 1pm - 3pm
Where: Langmeil Lutheran Church hall, 5-7 Maria St, Tanunda

The next Kaffee und Kuchen will be preceded by a German luncheon of goulash, red cabbage and spaetzle at 12 noon.

The cost of $28 per person includes coffee and cake at the end of the meeting. Those wishing to attend must contact Steffi Traeger (0408 621 384; [email protected]) by Monday, 22 June.

Join us for a relaxed German get-together and picnic on Sunday 17 May from 12.30pm at Coulthard Reserve, Nuriootpa.
Everyone is welcome — bring your own food, drinks, and chairs, and enjoy an afternoon in the fresh air with the BGLA community. It’s a wonderful opportunity for long-time members and younger families to connect and spend time together.
