CatRescue 901

CatRescue 901 Based in Sydney, Australia we rescue homeless cats & kittens from the streets and pounds. Thanks to a generous bequest, in 2020 we issued over 800 vouchers.

We have a network of approximately 30 dedicated foster carers, 20 veterinary practices and we rehome via our website and 5 PETstock stores CatRescue 901 is a Sydney based no kill organisation and registered not-for-profit, committed to rescuing, caring for and rehoming abandoned cats and kittens. Founded in 2006, originally as Catrescue NSW, our mission is to help combat and highlight the horrific

number of cats and kittens abandoned on our streets and destroyed in council pounds each year. CatRescue 901 not only cares for helpless animals, but proactively tackles the source of the issue by campaigning for legislative change, and providing low-cost desexing, microchipping and community education. We strongly believe that the terrible number of companion animals killed each year in NSW can be prevented through cultural and legislative change. CatRescue 901 is committed to rescuing, caring for and rehoming abandoned cats and kittens from the streets and sometimes council pounds. We do our best to help the most vulnerable cats, rescuing the very young, elderly, sick, injured, blind, disabled and the abused while relying on the goodwill of the community and dedication of volunteers to achieve this vital work. Our network consists of approximately 50 dedicated foster carers, a small team of coordinators and approximately 20 veterinary practices across Sydney. We rehome our cats via our website and we are very fortunate to also rehome our felines through 5 PETstock stores. Our cats have all vetwork completed prior to adoption and in the event our adopters circumstances change and they are no longer able to care for them, we will always accept our cats back. DESEXING IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF ABANDONED AND UNWANTED FELINES. As funds allow, we issue desexing vouchers to promote responsible pet ownership and assist members of public to do their part in controlling the cat population problem. CatRescue 901 is a no kill organisation because every life is precious and every cat deserves a chance. This means that we are committed to doing the best for every cat in our care until their forever home can be found for them. Their paws are in our hands.

🐈 SORA IS AVAILABLE 🐈‍⬛

After more than two years of specialist care, countless appointments, medications and lots of love, we are so excited to announce that Sora is finally ready for adoption! ❤️

Sora came into rescue as a tiny kitten after being severely overdosed with medication, leaving her with lifelong eye damage. Since then, she has been under the care of an ophthalmology specialist and, in May 2026, she finally received the all-clear.

Despite everything she has been through, Sora has never let her wonky eye slow her down. She is one of the happiest cats you’ll ever meet — playful, cheeky, affectionate and absolutely full of life. She loves chasing toys, pouncing on unsuspecting humans, racing around with other cats and chatting away at mealtimes.

While one of her eyes may look a little different, it doesn’t bother Sora at all. In fact, the specialist has advised that removing it would be purely cosmetic and unnecessary. She is comfortable, happy and living life to the fullest.

A very special thank you goes to CR901 alumni Jenny and Morten, whose unwavering dedication, support and commitment helped both Sora and her sister Lyla finally reach this point. We are so incredibly grateful for everything they have done.

Now all that’s left is for Sora to find the forever family she has waited so patiently for. 🖤
If you’re looking for a cat with resilience, personality and enough love to fill a house, Sora might just be your girl.

Meet Lewy 🐾
Lewy’s story is a reminder that sometimes the right home can be just as important as the right medical care.
This handsome boy came into our care after suffering from chronic recurrent urinary blockages. Despite treatment, the problem kept coming back and we suspected that life in a multi-cat environment simply wasn’t the right fit for him.
We made the decision to onboard him and get him the surgery he needed, to give him the opportunity for a fresh start.
Thanks to the incredible teams at The Inner West Cat Hospital and Parkes Street Vet, Lewy underwent a PU surgery and recovered beautifully.
The final piece of the puzzle was finding him a home that truly suited him.
Today, Lewy is living with two of our long-time supporters, where he is thriving as the king of his castle. No more stress, no more blockages, and no more sharing the spotlight.
Just a happy boy, living exactly the life he was meant to have. ❤️
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this happy ending possible.

Coal would like to know what black cats are supposed to do, to get adopted.

⚾ Learn to fetch? They can try.
💵 Pay rent? Seems unreasonable, but they'll consider it.
🐈‍⬛ Stop being tiny house panthers? Absolutely not.

For some reason, black cats are often overlooked and spend longer waiting for homes than cats of other colours. Maybe it's old superstitions. Maybe they're harder to photograph. Maybe people are distracted by cats with fancy stripes and patches.

Meanwhile, black cats are sitting in care wondering why nobody has noticed that they're funny, affectionate, playful, and excellent at following you to the bathroom.

The truth is, they're just cats. Wonderful cats. Cats who deserve homes just as much as any other colour.

So next time you're looking to adopt, don't scroll past the little voids. Your perfect companion might just be a black cat waiting patiently for their turn.

🖤 Tiny panthers. Zero bad luck. Plenty of love.

Bennett and Eddison are still waiting for their forever home, and with winter here, they're ready to put their lap-warming skills to good use!

These two handsome brothers are almost identical, but both share the same love of people, cosy naps, and spending time close to their humans. Whether they're curled up together or keeping you company on the couch, they're the perfect companions for the cooler months.

Bennett and Eddison are available for adoption and would love a place to call home.

Our goal is to get our cats ready for a wonderful long and safe life and to think that these same cats could be dumped is heartbreaking. If you are in a position in which you can’t look after your cat anymore, always reach out to the place you adopted from. We will always take our cats back. They will always be part of our family.

Yesterday we were contacted after one of our recently adopted cats was found wandering on the streets.

This little man had already been rescued once. He should never have found himself in that situation again. It is simply not acceptable.

What makes this even more upsetting is that he was only adopted in April. Within such a short period of time, he somehow found himself on the streets, alone and vulnerable.

When contact was made with the adopter, she advised that the cat had been given away. Even more concerning, the adopter stated they did not have the name, address, or contact details of the person the cat was given to.

This is exactly why our adoption agreements require adopters to contact Hunter Valley Cat Haven if they can no longer care for one of our cats. The agreement also clearly states that cats are not to be abandoned, sold, given away, or otherwise disposed of without our involvement.

Our adoption contracts are not just pieces of paper. They exist to protect the welfare and safety of the cats we rescue. Every cat that comes into our care receives veterinary treatment, rehabilitation, and countless hours of love, care and dedication before being matched with what we hope will be a forever home.

This beautiful, affectionate boy absolutely adores people. The thought of him being out on the streets is heartbreaking to us all, especially his foster carer, who invested so much time, love and effort into preparing him for his new life. Knowing that he somehow ended up back in a similar situation he was rescued from is difficult to comprehend.

To learn that a cat has been passed on without our knowledge, with no record of where he went, and ultimately found back on the streets is heartbreaking. These kittens have already experienced uncertainty and hardship. They deserve stability, safety and responsible care.

We are incredibly grateful that he was found safe and that we were contacted. His welfare remains our priority and he is now back where he will be cared for and protected.

This situation serves as an important reminder that if circumstances change, please contact your rescue. We would much rather take a cat back into our care or help with Assisted Adoption than see it passed from home to home, abandoned, or left vulnerable on the streets.

Our commitment to our cats does not end at adoption, and we expect those who adopt from us to honour the commitments they agreed to when welcoming one of our rescued cats into their family.

Meet Pearl - When cats first come into care, they need time to adjust to a new environment. Every cat settles in at their own pace, and we make sure they have the space and support they need.

Building trust takes time, and we're happy to move at Pearl's pace. She is already making progress and has started accepting a few chin rubs from her carer. These small moments are a good sign that she's beginning to feel more comfortable and secure.

With a bit more time to settle in, we're sure Pearl will be feeling at home before long. 🐾
