Out of the classroom and into the boardroom!

Students from Ourschool’s partner schools in Geelong visited KPMG Geelong’s office for our most recent Industry Insights session. These sessions are made possible through the network of public school alumni that Ourschool connects with through our work in schools.

“This session has helped me feel more confident by introducing me to career options that I didn’t really know existed or understand what they involved,” said a Year 10 student from Grovedale College.

Newcomb Secondary College, North Geelong Secondary College, Western Heights College and Grovedale College participated in this session.

Students heard from public school alumni working in a variety of roles, including senior staff members Corrina Bertram (an alum of South Gippsland Secondary College), Paul Robson (an alum of Mooroopna Secondary College), Dana Bentley (an alum of Ballarat Secondary College) and Claire Richards, MAICD, BCom, MICAA, MIIA (an alum of Belmont Secondary College). Students then broke into smaller groups to chat with additional KPMG staff members.

The session also included a tour of KPMG’s beautiful bayside office, as well as lunch, generously provided by the KPMG team.

"I’m proud to tell people I went to Muirfield High School."

Check out the article below in Hills to Hawkesbury about a recent alumni visit to Muirfield High School featuring Michael Antrum, the Honourable Deputy Chief Judge of the NSW Local Court.

Speaking at Muirfield High School's inaugural Festival of Ideas, Michael Antrum talked about his experience as a alum of the school, saying: "You get this sense of community, which I think is something very valuable for the rest of your life. Wear it with pride."

His visit was organised through the alumni program that Muirfield High School is building in partnership with Ourschool.

Take a look at this recent year 9 skills session for students at Frankston High School. The sessions were opt-in for students and hosted by alumni!

Which session would you choose?

“Visual storytelling” hosted by children’s book illustrator Nicky Johnston. Nicky is an award-winning children's book author and illustrator.

“Jewellery making” hosted by jeweller Jane Powell. Jane completed a Visual Arts Diploma and a Diploma of Jewellery Design, and now runs an established, bespoke jewellery studio.

“Netball skills” hosted by Renee Fox. Renee completed a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and Business (Sport Management), and is now a podcast host, Perfectly Flawed, sharing stories of resilience in sport, alongside her work as a Marketing Officer.

“Vehicle maintenance” hosted by Robert Bleumink. Robert is a State Sales Manager, but has also completed a Bachelor of Education and Electrical apprenticeship.

“Stage performance and magic tricks” hosted by Lachlan Wilde Lachlan is a seasoned performer, performing in festivals and on television, as well as a Production Manager, and a VE Services Officer.

We’re celebrating the achievements of talented public school alumni from our partner schools who recently competed at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games✨

Jacob Cassar, Copperfield College alum, took home a silver medal, at the tender age of 19. And Gemma Sellick of Mackellar Girls Campus, Northern Beaches Secondary College, isn’t technically a public school alum yet. She’s only in Year 10, and already winning silver!

Inspiring Excellence with alumni from Ulladulla High School!

It’s NSW Department of Education, Public Education week, this week, with the theme of . We can’t think of a better way to celebrate than highlighting Ulladulla High School’s most recent, alumni career pathways session.

Ulladulla High began their alumni program with Ourschool’s help, at the start of this year. Since then they have built a robust alumni program, connecting the school with their community.

In their most recent Career Showcase for students, the school brought back a whopping 30 (!!) alumni as exhibitors.

The alumni guests spanned a variety of industries: Defence Force, Aviation, Essential Services, Trades, Hospitality and many more. 

Students got the opportunity to meet alumni working in impressive careers, to ask questions, and to hear from people who grew up in their neighbourhoods.

Opportunities like this inspire pride, connection, and ambition in students. An opportunity that wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of alumni, across all of our partner schools. 

Alumni programs make public high schools stronger and inspire excellence!

Ourschool is rapidly expanding in NSW 👏

We are so excited to welcome six new schools in Sydney this term. The new alumni program coordinators are trained up and ready to start in their schools!

We are also excited to welcome Emily Parkinson the new Alumni Program Manager for NSW. She’ll be leading our growing team of alumni program coordinators in our NSW partner schools.

Teenagers learn there’s more to banking than money! 💸

Ourschool organised an excursion to the bank for students from some of our partner schools keen to learn about careers in banking.

Thanks to the generosity of a great team at NAB’s Melbourne headquarters. Ourschool organised an excursion to the bank for students from some of our partner schools keen to learn about careers in banking.

Students from Pascoe Vale Girls College and North Geelong Secondary College chatted to bank staff about careers ranging from tech to marketing, enjoyed a tour of the bank’s facilities and museum, and learnt about best practice tips for resume writing.
