Past President Avanti from the Rotary Club of Kandy, Sri Lanka shared this photo of the Peace Pole, set within the Royal Palace – King Wimaladharmasuriya I Park, Senkadagala, Kandy— on the International Day of Peace last week. The Peace Pole is a shared gift between Rotary Adelaide and the Rotary Club of Kandy. Many water projects have been done in partnership between the clubs over the years helping bring fresh water and increased peace into remote villages.

Rotary Clubs across SA continue to champion peacebuilding in schools and communities. This week, St Peters Concordia College Blackwood Campus transformed the International Day of Peace into a full Week of Peace, gathering each morning at their Peace Pole for whole‑school devotions led by different classes.

From 8.45–9.00am, students and staff explored what peace looks like in their school, their community, and our world. The Peace Pole became a living display of hope, kindness, and student‑led action.

Peter and his wife from the Rotary Club of Blackwood attended today’s “Peace in Our World” devotion and supported the school’s peace initiatives throughout the week.

🌿 Activities Throughout the Week
Peace Begins With Me
Students wrote or drew one way they can bring peace to school on paper doves and placed them around the Peace Pole.

Peace Through Kindness
Each student wrote an act of kindness on a coloured paper strip. These were joined together to create a Peace Chain wrapped around the pole.

Peace Through Our Words
Classes reflected on how words can build people up. Students contributed the words they want to hear at school:
welcome, sorry, thank you, come and play, I forgive you, are you okay?

Peace in Our World
Using a globe and world map, students named places and people around the world who need peace. Ribbons were tied to the Peace Pole to represent prayers for those communities.

We Are Peacemakers
Each class made a commitment beginning with “At St Peters, we will…”, bringing the week’s learning together in a whole‑school blessing and Peace Pole prayer.

What a beautiful commitment to peace that we're sure has been felt in and outside of the school.

Another amazing opportunity to talk peace. This time it was at the Adelaide Secondary School of English. Frida and Heidi were very impressed and inspired by the students and staff. This is the school’s second peace pole and it’s been sponsored by Rotary Adelaide and Frida, an old scholar of the school.
The school’s first peace pole was installed last year by the Medical Association for the Prevention of War (SA).

What happens when students, teachers and community volunteers come together with a shared vision for peace? Something truly special. 🕊️🌿

On Monday, Golden Grove High School celebrated the installation of a beautiful Peace Pole with a heartfelt ceremony that showcased the school’s commitment to creating a more peaceful and compassionate world.

A special congratulations to Student Wellbeing Leader, teacher Belinda, who worked alongside students to bring the project to life. Their dedication extended beyond the Peace Pole itself, creating a beautiful peace garden and commemorative plaque that will inspire reflection and connection for years to come.

This wonderful project was proudly sponsored by Rotary Modbury Golden Grove, whose support has helped create a lasting space for peace within the school.

A second Peace Pole will be installed at the school later in the year!

🕊️ International Day of Peace at RMSC 🌏

Today, our Girls Campus held a beautiful International Day of Peace Ceremony, an initiative proudly planned and led entirely by our Prefects and student leaders.

We were honoured to welcome special guests Mr Lawrence Ben MP, Member for Enfield, along with Heidi and Frida from the Rotary Club of Adelaide.

The ceremony provided a meaningful opportunity for our students to reflect on the importance of kindness, inclusion and respect - not just as words, but as values we should carry with us and demonstrate in the way we treat others every day.

We were also reminded of the importance of learning from our history, understanding the experiences of others and recognising what humanity continues to strive for around the world: peace. 🌏🕊️

We are incredibly fortunate that our College is home to two Peace Poles, each sharing the powerful message:

“May Peace Prevail on Earth.” 🕊️

A special thank you to our Prefects and student leaders for their leadership and for creating such a thoughtful and meaningful ceremony for our community.
