❤️ When one of our own is facing the toughest battle of their life, the Japura family stands together.

A fellow Japura graduate in Melbourne, Lakmali, and her family are navigating an incredibly difficult chapter. As an alumni community, we believe that our connection extends far beyond university days—we are there for each other when it matters most.

We warmly invite our members, friends, and the wider Sri Lankan community to join this fundraiser and help ease the burden on a young mother fighting with courage and hope. Every contribution, every share, and every show of support can make a meaningful difference.

Let's show that the strength of the Japura community is not measured by where we studied, but by how we stand beside our own in times of need. 💜

Congratulations to Professor Premachandra Athukorala on his appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) 👏👏

Our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Premachandra Athukorala, Emeritus Professor at the Australian National University, on his appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). The Order of Australia is the nation’s highest system of honours and is awarded by the King in recognition of outstanding achievement and service.

Professor Athukorala is a graduate of the University of Peradeniya and obtained his first postgraduate qualification from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He served as a lecturer in the Department of Commerce at Sri Jayewardenepura University for approximately eight years before migrating to Australia, where he went on to build an internationally acclaimed academic career.

This prestigious honour is a fitting recognition of Professor Athukorala’s outstanding contributions to academia, economic research, public policy, and the broader community. His distinguished career and achievements have brought immense pride to both the Sri Lankan and Australian communities and continue to inspire current and future generations.

Professor Athukorala has been a valued supporter of Japura Alumni Australia since its inception. His encouragement, guidance, and generosity -together with Mrs. Soma Athukorala’s generous contribution to our Scholarship Fund - have played a significant role in advancing our mission of supporting students and strengthening our alumni community.
