You’re invited to the opening of Songs of Stones, a new solo exhibition by Catherine Hickson at Wester Gallery
Drawing together still life and abstraction, Hickson’s latest body of work reflects on the quiet presence of rocks and stones in our everyday lives. From the landscapes we walk through to the objects we make and live with, Songs of Stones uncovers the beauty and enduring nature of these familiar forms.

Join for an evening celebrating a thoughtful and deeply considered exhibition that explores memory, materiality and our connection to place.

Opening this Saturday 6 June from 11am-5pm is Jono Everett’s first solo exhibition “Sacred” until 28 June 2028 at !

Jono is a fine furniture maker/designer who is making work now as an artist. This exhibition uses carefully deconstructed found chairs - stripping, sanding, shaping and using ebonizing techniques, fuming, torching and applying inks, gauche, paint, commercial and homemade stains which provide a juxtaposition of monochromatic elements against the urgent flashes of orange.

COLLECT 2026 is here! Opening night we are told is sold out but not to worry you can catch this much anticipated annual fundraiser over the coming month.

/ To mark our biggest opening of the year, COLLECT: Focus artist Emerald Ruby will perform four newly commissioned musical compositions from her exhibition, ‘Beach Comber’.
Moving intermittently throughout The Lock-Up’s galleries and former cells across the opening night, Emerald Ruby will perform with only her flute and sheet music, responding intuitively to the architecture, atmosphere, and artworks through a series of intimate, lo-fi interventions.

Michelle Teear’s third solo exhibition at Straitjacket is opening tomorrow, Saturday 9 May from 11am-5pm. Meet the artist on the day.

“Expansion” draws on cracked escarpments shaped under pressure, where rocky outcrops and quiet waterholes become contemplative gateways to inner landscapes. During a month in Western Queensland’s Channel Country, Michelle observed spring floodplains erupt in a flush of wild daisies and billy buttons.

The act of repetitive, decisive mark making inspired by fractured rock forms, becomes a pathway to self-expansion through connection with unconscious memory. Flat-topped mesas evoke a sense of grounded stillness, while quiet waterholes invite viewers to peer into their depths, to turn inward toward the stories we carry, some faintly pin-pricked with the shimmer of stars.
