It was a great open day yesterday, and we thank our amazing team of volunteers who worked tirelessly in setting up the museum & buses for the day - and, our amazing sausage sizzle king, for creating our first ever sausage sizzle stand! πŸ†πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘Œ

Despite the cooler weather, so many of you came to see us - including a former long time Skennars staff member, Robyn - who reconnected with PIJ on a joyride (bus preservation is probably more about the people behind the buses than it is about just the buses themselves πŸ˜‰)....

We also had our friends from the British Ford car club drop in, as well as many of our legendary regular visitors - and plenty of new ones (which we hope to see again)!

The team did very well preparing our joyride buses and they all performed flawlessly - many trips were nearly at full capacity, which was so great to see.

A big thanks to our team - whether you helped organise things on the back end, helped with cleaning, driving, packing away, cooking, driving, selling tickets & merch, talking to our visitors or anything else - thankyou πŸ™

Until next month.... our next open day is Sunday July 5th... mark it in your calendar πŸ“…

Hooroo! πŸ™‚

Hello again! 😁 Now about tomorrow... not only is it an open day, but we've got a few other awesome things going on to add to the fun!

First up, we will have around 10 or so vintage cars and 20 or so members from our friends at the Queensland Vintage Vehicle Association joining us 😎 So there'll be vintage cars on display as well πŸ˜ƒ

But wait - there's still more.....

In good news just to hand, we're also going to be trialling (drum roll please πŸ₯ .....).... a sausage sizzle! Similar sort of thing as a certain green & red themed hardware outlet πŸ˜‰

The sausage sizzle will be operating throughout the day and these will be priced accordingly.

So if you're being held back from visiting us because your significant other is insisting on going hardware shopping (but it's really just about the sausage sizzle πŸ˜‰), we've got your back πŸ‘ŒπŸ˜Ž

Lastly.... our intention is to offer our joy rides using the following buses;

PIJ (1967 Denning / Detroit GM ex Skennars - the one you can hear long before you see her 🀭)

Bus 722 - 1969 Leyland Panther (the blue one, that represents the era of when the buses replaced the trams - and just looks resplendent 🀩)

And...

Bus 858 - our Bustech VST Volvo B12 - the "baby" of the fleet in terms of age - but a bus that has her own cult following, and represents the Surfside Gold Coast fleet of that era.

Now - just like me, some of these older units (also like me), can be a bit cantankerous. It is our intention to use them tomorrow, but we reserve the right to substitute other buses if any of these little darlings decide they don't want to play tomorrow 😏 But... we'll do our best πŸ‘ŒπŸ™‚

So come on down tomorrow, hey? 😎

Cool weather, but even cooler veteran buses, vintage cars, warm snags and good company πŸ™ƒ

Ok - we'll go now...... πŸšͺ

10 am - 2pm, Sunday 7 June. 600 Mains Road, Nathan.

Now the obligatory bits;

Museum admission $20 - discounts for kids & concession holders. Joy rides free as part of museum admission. Sausage sizzle at cost. Cash or card welcome.

See you there! 😁

Congratulations to stalwart Brisbane City Council employee, Glenn Berghofer, who retired from Council on Friday, 1 May 2026 after 40 years of incredible service and dedication to moving the people of Brisbane.

Aside from being a popular and valued Council employee, Glenn has also been a valued supporter of our organisation for many years. Between 2015 and 2016, Glenn successfully lobbied Council to securely store up to 5 buses inside Council’s Sherwood bus depot, which he managed at the time.

This arrangement was a significant boon which lasted for 5 years and laid the foundation for the development of the Brisbane Transport Museum!

Thank you Glenn and we are excited that you will now have more time to spend at the Museum with us!

QOCS PARTNERS WITH INDRA TO REFURBISH SECOND HERITAGE BCC BUS

Excited to announce that we have partnered with the team at Indra to restore former Brisbane City Council 1989 Volvo B10M β€˜butter box’ bus number 185 to its former glory: https://www.qocs.org.au/our-buses/bus-185/

This is the second project funded under the partnership forged with Indra last year and follows the success of bus 958’s restoration unveiled in August 2025: https://www.qocs.org.au/cityxpress-brought-back-to-life/

Indra, a world leading supplier of proprietary solutions in transport, is a key contractor to Brisbane City Council for their flagship Brisbane Metro project.

The work is again being undertaken by the team at Royans Coachworks at Acacia Ridge in Brisbane.

Watch this space for further updates on 185’s journey!
