Here are some more photos of the Time Capsule unsealing taken by our official photographer Brigitte. In the coming weeks we will be taking pictures of the actual items that we have recovered as a digital record. They will then be shown here, and a display of any unclaimed items will be set up in the museum.
Anybody that would like to make a claim on any of the items are reminded that a form, available from council offices, must be filled in and lodged.
We will be exploring the possibility of another Time Capsule in the very near future, using the lessons learned, more on that soon.

We had the Time Capsule opening on Friday 24Th, it was a beautiful day. The Mayor Neville Kschenka welcomed the large crowd and Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, declared it open. A huge thanks to the council workmen that lifted off the stone slab and cut the steel box open. It was the most people we have ever had at the museum.
Then things went very bad. Unfortunately, a small bottle of champagne had been placed inside the box and had emptied itself, over time, and caused a very acidic environment, which in turn rusted a hole in the steel box letting in water. Around 75% of the contents are either destroyed or badly damaged, we are currently drying out what is salvageable and we will post photos after it has been processed.
Please be patient, as you can imagine, this will be a long, drawn-out exercise to prevent further damage.

WHATS HAPPEND TO THE MACARTHUR CLOAK?
Nothing to worry about, the cloak is undergoing routine maintenance and "resting" for the next couple of months. This maintenance period gives us a chance to fully inspect the garment and apply any necessary treatments to it. Hanging garments for long periods of time ages and slowly deteriorates the fabric, resting helps prolong its longevity. We will be placing large colour photos in its place until it can be reinstalled.

Hi Friends,
today marks the 12-month countdown to the opening of Parkside's time capsule, all volunteers are very excited about this event and look forward to the grand opening. There have been no sneak peaks so when it is opened it will be just as Sir Frank Duval sealed it. We will be giving updates as the next 12 months progresses and more details of the event are firmed.
In the meantime, has anybody any memories of the lead up to and the sealing of the capsule they would like to share?

New addition to the front lawn, a horse drawn plough display, set up with the help of Terry and Gary, there could be more to come. Yes, it is bolted and chained down and signage to follow. This was part of a display out the back that was hardly seen by the public.

Hi Friends,
we are putting together a display on previous Rod Run's and were wondering if any "Rodders" had any photos or memorabilia they would care to donate or loan for the Rod Run weekend. Digital copies of photos can be emailed direct to [email protected] with a brief description, date taken and who was in it. Other items can be dropped off at the museum when open or the library, please ensure your name and phone number is on them if you want them to be returned. Thanks in advance, it will be a huge weekend.

Parkside Cottage Museum

Narrandera Parkside Cottage Museum is gearing up for an exciting year in 2025 with fresh exhibitions and plenty of opportunities for new volunteers to get involved. The museum is a vital part of the community, preserving and sharing our region’s rich history. Visitors are always amazed at our eclectic collections and displays.

New exhibitions are on the horizon and we invite history enthusiasts and community members to join us is bringing these displays to life. Do you have items, stories or photos to share? We would copy your stories and photos to add to our archives. If you have something you think might be useful we’d love to hear from you.

Volunteers meet on the first Monday morning of each month and potential volunteers are welcome to drop by, learn more about what we do and see how you can get involved. Whether you’re a history buff, a community storyteller or just curious to learn more about our region, we welcome you to become part of the journey.
