The Annual Wage Review is raising important questions across early childhood.
For home based care, there are two sides we cannot ignore:
• the need to retain and value educators
• the financial pressures on services and families
Family Day Care and In Home Care are already facing workforce shortages. Any changes to wages may influence both educator retention and affordability for families seeking flexible care.
As the peak body for home-based care, FDCQ is monitoring this closely and will share updates and practical guidance as decisions unfold.

We would really value your input.
What does this mean for your service, your work, or the families you support?

The Fair Work Commission has released new Annual Wage Review 2026 material, with the outcome set to influence educator wages, workforce retention and service viability across early childhood education and care.

Today we acknowledge Mabo Day and the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo.
We recognise the strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their deep connection to Country, and the ongoing journey towards truth and justice. We stand in respect and solidarity.

Today we honour Mabo Day. 💙🤍💚

We remember Eddie Mabo and his tireless efforts toward land rights, justice, and recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. His legacy reminds us that Country, culture, and community must always be at the heart of our work.

🔔The Fair Work Commission has released its final decision on the SCHADS Award as part of the gender-based undervaluation review.

For Family Day Care, the outcome is not yet final.

The Commission has noted that the current placement of Family Day Care work within SCHADS remains an “anomaly”, and that this issue will be considered further by a new Expert Panel for pay equity in the Care and Community Sector.

While this means we do not yet have a final answer for home-based ECEC, it is important that the issue remains active and recognised.

FDCQ will continue to monitor the process and advocate for Family Day Care educators, services and the skilled work that supports quality home-based early childhood education and care.

Today we acknowledge Global Day of Parents.

Recognised by the United Nations, this day highlights the important role parents play in children’s wellbeing, learning and development. The 2026 theme, Together for Parents, is a reminder that parents do not raise children alone. Strong families need strong support around them.

For many families, Family Day Care is part of that support.

Family Day Care offers quality early childhood education and care in a nurturing, home-based environment. Its flexible and personal approach can help families who need care that works around real life, including work, study, family routines, local community needs and care arrangements that may not fit traditional models.

Today, we acknowledge parents and families across our community, and the Family Day Care educators and services who work alongside them every day.

Together for parents. Together for children. Together for stronger communities.
