🌱 Great to see the next generation getting involved! 🐦

We love seeing young people getting hands-on with our local environment. The Year 6 students at Helena College have shown fantastic initiative by forming their own Cockatoo Club and planting more than 55 Hakea plants to provide an important food source for Carnaby’s Cockatoos into the future.

For us at HRCG, this is exactly the sort of involvement we love to see — giving young people the opportunity to get their hands dirty, learn about our unique environment and play a real part in protecting it. 🌿💚

The work we do today helps create a healthier environment for tomorrow, and inspiring the next generation to care for our bushland and wildlife is a big part of that.

Well done Sophie, Isla and the entire Cockatoo Club! 👏🌱🐦

🌱🌧️ Another Great Day of Planting at the Iconic Project! 🌿

On Saturday, HRCG members headed out to our Iconic Project site in Helena Valley, where we planted more than 100 sedges along the riverbank. 🌱💧

It was a very cold and wet day, but the conditions were actually ideal for getting plants into the ground! 🌧️ — and there was certainly no shortage of water for the newly planted sedges.

A big thank you once again to Philip Lane, HRCG Chairperson, for leading the day and making sure the plants got into the ground, despite the very wet and chilly conditions. 👏🌿

Every plant we put in the ground is another step towards restoring and improving the Helena River environment.

💚 Happy Landcare Week! 🌿

This week we're celebrating the incredible volunteers, community groups and local champions who dedicate their time to protecting and restoring our natural environment.

Here at Helena River Catchment Group, we're proud to work alongside passionate volunteers who spend countless hours planting native seedlings, controlling w**ds, improving habitat and caring for the Helena River catchment. Every hour volunteered helps create healthier waterways, supports biodiversity and leaves a lasting legacy for future generations.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has volunteered with us over the years. Whether you've joined us for a planting day, tackled invasive w**ds, donated containers through Containers for Change, or supported us in other ways, you've made a real difference. 💚

🌿 Please consider having your say for WA's Black Cockatoos. 🖤🦜

Our friends at Save the Black Cockatoos are encouraging the community to make a submission regarding the proposed Katanning gold mine, which they say could impact important habitat for the endangered Carnaby's Black Cockatoo (Ngolyenok).

As a group dedicated to protecting and restoring the Helena River catchment, we know how vital native vegetation, mature trees, wildlife corridors and healthy ecosystems are for the survival of our unique wildlife.

🌱 Join Us for a Community Planting Day! 🌱

Come and help us restore the beautiful Helena River Picnic Grounds Project Site! Every seedling planted brings us one step closer to a healthier, more vibrant river environment for wildlife and future generations. 💚

🕘 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

End of Helena Valley Road, Helena Valley (just past the gate).

⚠️ Important: Please arrive before 9:00 am, as the gate will be locked at that time.

🌭 BBQ Lunch Afterwards!
Join us after the planting for a well-earned BBQ at a nearby house—a great chance to relax and catch up with fellow volunteers.

Whether you're a regular volunteer or it's your first time, we'd love to see you there. Bring a hat, water bottle, sturdy shoes, and plenty of enthusiasm!

Together, we can make a lasting difference for the Helena River. 🌿💚

Your generosity is making a real difference. Every dollar donated goes towards restoring and protecting the Helena River catchment—helping us purchase native plants, control w**ds, improve habitat, and support our volunteer-led environmental projects.

It's amazing how a few recycled containers can grow into healthier waterways, thriving bushland, and better homes for our local wildlife.

🌱👏 Inspiring the Next Generation of Environmental Champions! 🌿

What a fantastic effort by the Gingin Scout Group, who recently helped Chittering Landcare plant an incredible 1,100 trees! 💚

It's wonderful to see young people getting outdoors, learning about our environment and making a real difference through hands-on conservation.

At the Helena River Catchment Group, we're proud to work alongside organisations like Chittering Landcare. Just recently, we were pleased to assist them with planting at our Scott Street Iconic Project, demonstrating how community groups can achieve so much when we work together.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved—from the Scouts and their leaders to the Chittering Landcare team. Every tree planted is an investment in healthier waterways, stronger biodiversity and a greener future for generations to come. 🌳🐦

🐢💚 A Special Place Worth Protecting 🌿

Thank you to Sarah Howlett – Midland Guildford Ward Councillor for highlighting the incredible Snake-necked Turtle habitat at Coal Dam Park and the importance of protecting the Helena River (Mandoon Bilya).

The Helena River Catchment Group is proud to be one of the many local organisations working alongside volunteers, community groups and government agencies to restore and protect this precious catchment. Every planting day, w**d control activity and habitat restoration project helps create a healthier future for our native wildlife.

It's wonderful to see this remarkable area continuing to be appreciated for its natural values, and we look forward to continuing our work with the community to care for the Helena River and its surrounds.
