Unfortunately the Cableway proposal marches slowly on. No new money was allocated for further studies. Yes, the council entity pushing this destructive proposal are talking to proponents. Proponents who want Council to use rate payers money to do all the preliminary studies. Studies that could cost up to $11 million. Below is the resolution passed at a full council meeting n the 2nd of December.

Cableway: Join us tomorrow morning at 9am at GCCC Chambers, Bundall. Consultants say it is an “expensive task” and the only way to de-risk the project will be to secure full environmental approvals under the Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and await a government review.
“If it is a full EPBC submission and community engagement and all other aspects to reduce risk, it would be far more than $1m and probably $3m to $4m to engage a private planning firm,” a leading consultant said.

We need your help to stop this destructive and risky proposal for a cableway!
Join Respect Springbrook Mountain, a coalition of community and conservation groups opposing the cableway. Individuals and groups are welcome. Together, we call on all levels of Government to respect World Heritage-listed Springbrook National Park and stop pursuing this destructive and risky infrastructure.

Our concerns are supported by evidence that paints a clear picture: a cableway development to Springbrook is neither sustainable, nature-based, nor eco-tourism-friendly.

It has been 25 years since the first proposal for a cableway was rejected for reasons that are even greater today!

Please read all the information written here to understand our concerns.

Please have your say using this survey created by Council’s Nature Based Tourism Department. Council purchased Eaglemont Estate earlier this year to expand the coasts Nature Based Tourism product. The Mayor has frequently said in the media that the property would make a good landing spot for a Cableway. There is a box at the end of the survey to add your thoughts about this property being used for this purpose. There will hopefully be a much better outcome for this land than a being used for a Cableway. Survey open until the 11th of August.
