Taarna Arts Pottery Journey Takes Off!

Su Brown, a potter from Tallebudgera Valley, Queensland, is helping Taarna Arts & Culture set up their own pottery studio. While the Taarna team worked on securing essential infrastructure for the art centre, practicalities decided the best spot for the new studio would temporarily be in Alice Springs, but its display outlet would be at Taarna Valley, located in the West MacDonnell Ranges.

The creativity is exciting, and every idea that Su suggests is immediately explored. Large art objects to small exquisite works are being made. Aboriginal designs and local flora and fauna designs are rapidly filling the kiln. The work produced is of high-quality stoneware; domestic items are oven-proof, food-safe, dishwasher-safe, and microwave-safe.

Su brings over fifty years of experience teaching pottery, and Taarna Arts & Culture is very lucky to have Su guide us on this journey. In 2011, Su started a pottery project at Wallace Rockhole, Northern Territory; sadly, this venture closed. A standout potter was Angela Abbott, whose pots soon found a ready market of followers. It is very exciting to see these potters once again being creative.

Now that the dust has settled and 1000's of shoe prints have washed away by the recent rain. You wouldn't have even known the "The Dust Bowl Festival" took place at Taarna Valley.

The Dust Bowl event team did a great job through out the whole event and left the site clean and tidy🙂

A huge thank you to our team for getting the site to a stage, where we can trial an event like this and braving the cold to help with catering🙌
