Timber Legends of 2025 | Congratulations to Mr. Laurie Hein and Mr. Stephen Van Schaik

Last night at the 2025 Green Triangle Timber Industry Awards, we celebrated two true legends of our industry — individuals whose dedication, innovation, and leadership have helped shape the strength and success of the Green Triangle’s forestry community.

The first Timber Legend honoured was Mr. Laurie Hein — a man whose life’s work has helped build the very backbone of our plantation forestry sector. From humble beginnings in a small family mill to leadership roles guiding national direction, Laurie’s journey has been one of grit, wisdom, and quiet strength.

For more than forty years, he has championed safety, sustainability, and unity — mentoring generations of forestry professionals and inspiring those around him to lead with integrity and purpose. His steady hand, sharp mind, and generous heart have left a lasting mark on our industry.

Our second Timber Legend, Mr. Stephen Van Schaik is a man who saw opportunity where others saw waste — a true pioneer of sustainability who turned timber residues into new life, transforming by-products into valuable resources that nurture the land.
Guided by innovation, family values, and community spirit, he built a business grounded in care for people, the planet, and the future. His leadership has reshaped how we think about the circular economy and continues to inspire progress across the region.

Together, these two outstanding individuals embody the values, resilience, and vision that define our industry. Their legacies will continue to inspire those who work within forestry for generations to come.

Congratulations again to our 2025 Timber Legends.
