We’ve been asked by one of our members to share this fundraiser for Kaz Gibbs, a deeply valued member of the Young Diggers community.

Kaz has dedicated years of her life supporting veterans and their families through Young Diggers, including stepping into leadership roles and giving so much of herself to keep the service alive for others in their times of need.

Please take a moment to read about her situation and, if you’re in a position to help, whether through a donation or simply sharing the fundraiser, it would be greatly appreciated by her family and loved ones.

Please keep Kaz and her family in your thoughts.

30 years on and never forgotten.

We Will Remember Them.

Lest We Forget.

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the 1996 Black Hawk accident in Townsville, in which 18 ADF members tragically lost their lives.

During training for counter-terrorism operations on the night of June 12, 1996, two Australian Army Black Hawk helicopters collided in the Townsville Field Training Area.

As a result of the accident, there were 18 fatalities; 15 from the Special Air Service Regiment and three from the 5th Aviation Regiment. It was Australia's worst peacetime military aviation disaster, and it sent shockwaves of sadness across the nation.

This tragedy highlights the constant risks associated with serving in the nation’s armed services and the commitment and bravery of those who serve.

🐾 National Military Working Dog Day — June 7 🐾

Today, Australia pauses to honour the courage, loyalty and sacrifice of our Military Working Dogs and their handlers — partners who walked into danger together, side by side.

This date carries deep meaning. On 7 June 2010, Australian EDD Handler Sapper Darren Smith, his dog Herbie, and Sapper Jacob Moerland were tragically killed in Afghanistan. Sapper Smith became the first Australian dog handler killed in action while working a military dog overseas. Their loss is the reason this day exists.

Today, our hearts turn to the four legged heroes who never hesitated — guided only by loyalty, trust and love. Military Working Dogs didn’t understand politics or borders. They understood their person. They understood duty. They understood love. And they gave everything.

Some made it home. Many did not. All left pawprints on the lives they protected.

Today we honour:
• the dogs whose instincts and bravery saved countless lives
• the handlers who formed unbreakable bonds with them
• the silent sacrifices history rarely records

May we never forget the loyalty that asked for nothing in return.
Lest we forget. 🐾❤️

What an EPIC day at the Mt Beauty Soccer Gala….

Over 230 snags (17kg) and more than 100 coffees served in just 4 hours, along with many amazing sweet treats kindly donated for the day.

Thanks to everyone who supported us today and for the patience shown by those waiting for their cold morning coffee fix while we worked through a minor power issue.

A huge and grateful shout out to our team of volunteers who took time out of their weekend to enjoy great company and an even greater cause as we continue to grow our little Sub-Branch. Watching everyone working together with smiles on their faces, laughter and a bit of banter was truly inspiring.

Thanks also to the Mt Beauty Soccer Club for inviting us, and finally a big thank you to the legends at Honeybird coffee. Your coffee and equipment allowed us to put smiles on many faces today as they tried to warm up on a bitterly cold morning. We appreciate your support.

Days like today are a reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together. From the volunteers behind the barbecue and coffee machine to every person who stopped by for a snag, a coffee, or simply a chat, each of you played a part in making today such a success. Thank you for helping us continue to grow our little Sub-Branch and the connections that make it so special.
