Thanks for your support Julia. Our Southern Highlands community united to stand up & tell the IPC & NSW State Government that this is Not The Right Site 🛑
At the top of the list is the real threat to Sydney’s drinking water along with the risk of catastrophic fire.

ACTION REQUIRED. As you would be aware the IPC is now considering all the submissions. Correspondence has been sent to the proponent asking additional questions.

Important to know is that NO APPLICATION/CASE has been rejected in the past by the IPC following a recommendation from the Department.

We need to keep the pressure up & make some NOISE! So that Ministers cannot claim their ignorance of the situation we are requesting people do the following:

1. check the minister's contact list: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/nswgovdirectory.

2. Identify which Minister you wish to send the correspondence to. Note you may need to communicate via an online form.

3. Send the same communications to both their electorate office and their Ministerial office.

4. Customise the following letter to your own needs, or send as is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/426137205396225/permalink/1289999755676628

Please use the above link to take you to the template for the ministers letter.
Template can be customised for correspondence. We are also suggesting that you could copy & paste from your written submissions for the different ministers eg - fire & rescue.

If you can get this out before Christmas then they will have some holiday reading!

Merry Christmas to you all and thanks for your great work with this campaign. Please write DONE in the comments of this thread when you have actioned this. Thanks!

A Call to Protect Wingecarribee: Susan Stannard's Address to the IPC on the PlasRefine Proposal

Susan Stannard, Acting Executive Manager of Strategic Outcomes at Wingecarribee Shire Council, spoke to the IPC with a clear message: our community deserves development that respects residents, the environment, and the long-term vision for the region.

Wingecarribee’s Southern Highlands Innovation Park (SHIP) is a 1,000-hectare employment precinct, strategically designed for advanced manufacturing, research, and innovation. However, the PlasRefine proposal risks disrupting this vision and creating severe challenges for nearby residents.

Key concerns include:
Traffic and Safety: The proposal brings an estimated 90 truck movements and 200+ vehicle trips daily, posing congestion and safety risks to nearby residential areas.

Environmental Impact: Potential microplastic pollution threatens local agriculture, water sources, and ecosystems, issues not fully addressed in the current proposal.

Tourism and Economy: Wingecarribee’s economy relies heavily on its environment and local produce, which could be at risk with an industrial development of this nature.

This project isn’t just about one site; it’s about upholding the SHIP master plan and protecting the health and quality of life for Wingecarribee’s community. The Council stands with its residents, advocating for responsible, sustainable development.

Craig Reucassel investigates PFAS, the 'forever chemicals' found in firefighting foam, waterproof jackets, and even our waterways. Linked to health risks like cancer and high cholesterol, these persistent chemicals are everywhere. With Australia set to ban key PFAS types next year, Craig dives into what this means for our health and the environment. Are we doing enough to tackle this widespread issue?

Take More Action for Cleaner Water. Write to the Senate Select Committee and demand mandatory labelling of the chemicals as well as much lower allowable levels. Australia is lagging behind the rest of the world.
Submit your comments via email: [email protected]
Deadline: Submissions closing date: 19 December 2024.

Submission UPDATE- THE IPC is still COUNTING! I spoke to them this morning I must say they are always so happy to help & responsive.
They said that if anyone ever wants to contact them about our case just email & they do their best to reply in 48hours.
They are sending out an update email by the end of the week.
What I did get confirmation on is the following-

🌟The 50 days timeline many people have asked about does apply from the 11th October however the clock (so to speak) has been stopped at least twice so far by the commissioners with questions for GHD or DPHI. They indicated they are working as hard as they can to upload the latest submissions but due to the VOLUME they couldn’t give me an indication of what the latest count is approx.
I thought it was good to hear (and we would expect) the clock ⏰ had stopped already & no doubt after the last submissions it surely will again.
Hope this helps. Anna
We will all await the email 📧

Plastic Inferno: Why the PlasRefine Facility Could Be a Firefighting Nightmare

Are we prepared for the unthinkable?

Despite meeting fire safety regulations on paper, the PlasRefine site design may be catastrophically flawed. Recycling facility fires around the world reveal a stark truth: they generate their own fuel, making them nearly impossible to extinguish.

With visuals comparing similar-sized sites like Richmond, Indiana, where 2,000 people were forced to evacuate, we uncover:
Equipment and access challenges for firefighters.
Structural design limitations in fire suppression.

The alarming scale of potential devastation.
If a fire starts here, it won’t just burn—it will rage until nothing remains. Are we truly equipped to manage such a disaster?
