ORBOST & SURROUNDS COMMUNITY
LAECG – CHAIRPERSON OPPORTUNITY

Are you passionate about supporting our young people, families and community through education?

The Orbost Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (LAECG) is seeking a Community Chairperson to help lead and strengthen local Aboriginal voice in education.

The LAECG is a community-led group connected through Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated (VAEAI) and works alongside schools, families, community organisations and government to improve outcomes for Koorie children and young people.

WHAT IS AN LAECG?
Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Groups (LAECGs) are made up of local Aboriginal community members who:
Care about education outcomes for our children and young people.
Want stronger community voice in schools and education settings.
Support cultural safety, inclusion and advocacy.
Bring local knowledge, lived experience and leadership.

There are currently 30 LAECGs across Victoria helping drive educational change and achievement for students and community.

THE ROLE OF CHAIRPERSON
The Chairperson helps:
Lead local LAECG meetings.
Support community voice and decision-making.
Work alongside schools and education providers.
Advocate for Koorie students, families and community.
Strengthen relationships between community and education.

You will be supported every step of the way by VAEAI and me Angela Thorpe Atkinson Chittem. I am your right hand person assisting with administrative support and everything you may need.

WHO CAN APPLY?
Membership is open to local Aboriginal community members with an interest in Koorie education and community outcomes.
You do not need formal qualifications, just passion, commitment and community spirit.
