With the move from Shop 16 to the House almost complete, we’re excited to share that our food pantry is now available in the foyer from Mon- Thurs 9:15am-2:45pm. Our pantry is smaller than the Shop 16 cupboard so if there’s something you are in need of please ask as we may have it in storage.

Mooroolbark Community Connect @ Shop 16 is officially, completely, totally.... moved!
All our fantastic volunteers are now ready to help, chat and connect over a cuppa at the Mooroolbark Community House.
You can find our Community Pantry, free Book and DVD library now in "The Living Room." This welcoming space is through the main doors in the foyer.

Get your festive attire and singing voices ready! We are hosting a Christmas in July sing-a-long, (or just come a long!), on Saturday 25th July at 2pm. The wonderful Mooroolbark Melodies who debuted at the Mooroolbark Carols are back and will be singing favourite winter and Christmas songs.
We'll provide afternoon tea. No alcohol.

TERM THREE is here!

A couple of changes to the program this term -

✨The Living Room - we're currently merging the Shop 16 project into the house, and creating a new foyer space called The Living Room where you can come for a cuppa, chat, casual craft session, games etc. We're in the process of moving things and volunteers across so we expect this program will begin in the coming weeks. We still have coffee and chat on Tuesdays, 10am-12pm and you are welcome to use the foyer anytime during our open hours.

✨ Tai Chi - we now have TWO Tai Chi classes! Jeff is starting a class on Mondays 10:30-11:30 aimed more at beginners, although more advanced are welcome. You can come for a free trial class, or book through our website, or pop into the office. Cost is 120/ten week term, we will reduce fees if you start later.

✨ Cardmaking - Our wonderful card making instructor Georgie is having this term of teaching so we are running an open papercraft session. The cost is $25 per term as we have lots of lovely supplies you can use, and will replenish. We ask you book in as space is limited.

Exciting news!

Mooroolbark Community House, and Mooroolbark Community Connect at Shop 16, are excited to share that the Community Connect project is transitioning to the Mooroolbark Community House.

Mooroolbark Community Connect is a collaborative project initially founded by the Mooroolbark Umbrella Group (MUG) and the Mooroolbark Traders and Community group. Back in 2022 it was initially funded through grants from Community Bank Mooroolbark and Yarra Ranges Council. The project was managed by MUG and Cumulus Rising with Yolande, Ash, Renae, and currently Beck coordinating the space. In 2023 the project secured partnership funding from Yarra Ranges Council, and over the years grew into a community space where everyone was welcome to stop for a cuppa and chat, access the food pantry, DVD and book library, sit down and craft, and at times receive fresh food relief. The shop couldn’t function in the capacity it has without the amazing volunteers who’ve given their time over the years.

When Mooroolbark secured funding for the Mooroolbark Community House it was envisioned that Mooroolbark Community Connect would eventually transition to the house strengthening what both the house and Mooroolbark Community Connect bring to the community.

What’s changing?
From Wednesday 15th July we are delighted to announce that familiar volunteers from Shop 16 will be transitioning to the community house. They’ll be building on our foyer program which has been fondly renamed, The Living Room. We can’t wait for this creative and passionate group of volunteers to build something wonderful in the foyer space where everyone is welcome for tea and coffee, to access the pantry, book and DVD library, to have a chat, to play board games or join a casual craft session. We’ll have more details about this next week as we lock in logistics.

Beck, the current coordinator of Mooroolbark Community Connect will be joining the Mooroolbark Community House staff as our Community Connector, funded by the YRC partnership fund. Beck will work with migrant and other marginalised community members to develop programs and connect people to services. We’re so excited to have Beck on board.

What’s not changing
While the location will be different we are committed to creating a welcoming environment for all. Shop 16 may no longer be the physical location for community connection, but the heart of the project will carry over to the house where it will be strengthened and expanded over time. We are genuinely excited to see where our new adventure takes us!

Today the Mooroolbark Community House reaches a huge milestone, becoming an independent organisation. We have been under the auspices of the Mooroolbark Umbrella Group since start up and thank them for their huge contributions of time and commitment to make this organisation possible.

We'd like to thank the following people and organisations for their support, expertise, guidance and commitment;
