Dularcha Matters

Some questions for our volunteers and followers:

Moving forward do you have any ideas for activities (topics) that you would like to see occur in Dularcha National Park?

Would you volunteer on another day? Is a morning or afternoon preferred?

Is the location of our monthly event best or would changing to another entry point be preferred?

What does Dularcha National Park mean to you?

Looking forward to seeing everyone's thoughts. You can message us your thoughts as well.

Don't forget our upcoming monthly event on the 4th of July. Stay tuned for updates on what will be happening.

Lantana versus Madeira Vine

The group had an amazing working bee this morning with 11 people joining us for a morning of w**ding, great company and enjoying the beautiful winter sun!

Welcome to our 3 new volunteers who put in a huge effort today. It was a pleasure to have you with us.

We focused on continuing to remove the Lantana to the East of the walking track. A group got stuck back into re-treating the Madeira Vine patch by the carpark - the group learnt all about the scrape and treat method and managed to find numerous Madeira Vine saplings.

Other w**ds removed included:
Camphor Laurel (Cinnamomum camphora)
Mock Orange (Murraya paniculata)
Umbrella Tree (Heptapleurum actinophyllum)
Coral Berry (Ardisia crenata)
Passionfruit (Passiflora edulis)
Rough Lemon (Citrus x taitensis)

The morning finished with a walk and talk in the bush and we were able to check out some more threatened plants.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today, your efforts are making a huge difference to the National Park and everyone involved in the group.

Heres a fun fact: Since the 1st of February 2026 the Friends of Dularcha community have put in 200 volunteer hours. What a huge effort!

Plants do matter on International Day for Biological Diversity.

Did you know that in South East Queensland there are over 200 rare or threatened plants? Here on the Sunshine Coast we have 75 rare or threatened plants. How many do you think occur in Dularcha National Park?

We're happy to confirm that 11 threatened plant species have so far been observed in the park (Current as of 22/05/26). Targeted surveys are continuing to confirm the existence in the park of the Vulnerable Ricinocarpos speciosus, an uncommon shrub threatened by Lantana which was last observed in the park in 2001. Please see the photos below of each threatened plant found so far (further details to be finalised shortly).

A big thanks goes out to all citizen scientists who have visited the park and continue to do so. Don't forget we also have a project on iNaturalist that anyone can join (Project Name: Friends of Dularcha National Park).

We encourage all Mooloolah and Landsborough residents to learn about the incredible biodiversity that occurs in their properties. Reach out if you have a plant on your property that can't be identified and we will endeavour to assist you when available.

Happy National Volunteer Week! We want to take a moment to celebrate YOU. Thank you for bringing your energy and your skills to our group. We couldn't do what we do without you! Thank you to our Vollies!💚💚💚

Our huge efforts in decreasing the Lantana infestations and the likely eradication of Cat's Claw Creeper from the park haven't gone unnoticed. Our efforts on the Mooloolah side of the park are giving threatened plants like Scrub Turpentine & Richmond Birdwing Vine a fighting chance.

While we don't have any community events planned for this weekend, we hope everyone has a well earned rest.

Our next event is planned for the 6th of June. All are welcome, no experience required.
