Are you aged 18 to 35 and keen to showcase your agricultural expertise? Test your skills and knowledge in a series of entertaining on-farm challenges and be in the running for fantastic prizes, national glory and serious bragging rights 💪🏆 Then you will want to be part of Australian Young Farmers Challenge.

The Merredin & Districts Agricultural Society is excited that the Australian Young Farmers Challenge will be coming to the Merredin Show on the 28th of March.

So get your friends together as teams of 4 are required, entry is FREE, prize money is on offer for the winning team and the winning team can progress through to the Perth Royal Show!!

We're incredibly excited that Stuart McAlpine has been named a finalist for this year's Bob Hawke Landcare Awards!

With decades of experience and a passion for regenerative agriculture, Stuart McAlpine is the kind of leader our farming future needs.

Stuart's long list of achievements is difficult to condense into just one post, so here's a snapshot: Stuart has transformed his own farm in Buntine, demonstrating with long-term trials that regenerative systems can outperform in dry years, reduce costs, and deliver high-quality food, all while restoring natural capital. Stuart’s efforts extend far beyond his own farm - he has championed sustainability through co-founding the Liebe Group, as well as occupying leadership roles within this group, Northern Agricultural Catchment Council, and RegenWA Ltd, while fostering collaborations with researchers and institutions on local and global scales. He has mentored young farmers, sparked regional innovation, and even represented Australian farmers on the global stage at COP28.

Stuart's approach to farming champions soil biology, low-input systems, and practical, profitable change, (no easy feat in the tough conditions of WA’s wheatbelt) so it's easy to see why he is being recognised as someone who plays crucial role in shifting the dial on what’s possible when you work with nature, not against it.

If selected for the Bob Hawke Landcare Award, Stuart plans to reinvest the prize into regional workshops, farmer-led trials, online resources, and a book to share the lessons he’s learned along the way.
