Inauguration of Pakistani Community & Students Welfare Committee at Pakistan Consulate General Melbournelbourne, VIC, 5 February 2027

The Pakistani Community & Students Welfare Committee (PCSWC) was formally inaugurated on 5 February 2027 at the Pakistan Consulate General Office, Melbourne, marking an important milestone for organised community engagement in Victoria.

In his inaugural address, Consul General of Pakistan, Mr Wajid Hashmi, highlighted the importance of the Pakistani community actively participating in civic, professional, and social activities in Australia. He emphasised that stronger community engagement is essential to fostering mutually beneficial relationships between Pakistan and Australia and to projecting a positive image of the Pakistani diaspora.

The Chair of the Pakistani Community & Students Welfare Committee, Dr Majid Naeem Gondal, described the establishment of the Committee as a significant step forward in structuring and streamlining the efforts of community, professional, and political leaders. He noted that the Committee provides a coordinated platform to align initiatives, avoid duplication, and maximise impact for the benefit of both countries.

During the ceremony, Dr Gondal introduced the Conveners of the various subcommittees, who briefly outlined their respective committee mandates and priority areas. The subcommittees include:

• Community Welfare
• Family Care & Support
• Human Resources & Skills
• Student Welfare
• Education
• Cultural Projection
• Sports
• Trade Enhancement

A dedicated Committee website was also officially launched, aimed at improving communication, transparency, and community participation.

The event was attended by key representatives of the Pakistani community in Melbourne, who expressed strong enthusiasm for the initiative and a willingness to play an active role in advancing shared community and national interests. Speakers consistently underscored the importance of broad-based community engagement, encouraging attendees to spread the message and involve a wider cross-section of the community, including women, students, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.

The inauguration concluded with a collective call to action to build an inclusive, collaborative, and forward-looking platform that strengthens the Pakistani community’s contribution to Australian society while deepening Pakistan–Australia ties.e
