UNITY IN OUR COMMUNITY

The room was crowded, the mics weren’t perfect, and the mission couldn’t be clearer: get Australia’s hunting podcasters into one place and push back on rushed, headline‑driven laws with unity, evidence, and heart. Cody Gearon planted the seed and it turned into a national roundtable featuring hosts from Wild Origins Australia, Get Outdoors With Drew and Cam, Women Who Hunt, Hunting Connections, In The Dark and Bullet Points, Australian Hunting Backcountry, Nature’s Perks, Hunting Republic, and the OG in Australian podcasts the Australian Hunting Podcast. What followed was a frank, sometimes raw, always focused conversation about protecting a lawful lifestyle that feeds families, fuels regional economies, and keeps ferals in check.

The Wild Origins Australia Podcast is here!

The launch of Wild Origins Australia sets a clear intention: build an honest bridge between hunters, conservationists, and the wider public by telling the full story of sustainable use.

The rebrand from Blood Origins to the Origins Foundation widens the lens beyond hunting to habitat, and community outcomes, and it shifts tone from advocacy to stewardship. That change matters in Australia, where heated language can derail useful action.

The Wild Origins Australia team frames its ethos as “I am second,” centering service over ego and committing to help local groups do what they do best. This new platform aims to be a glue organisation: convene associations, clubs, and curious citizens; share plain facts; invite good-faith disagreement; and make space for nuance rather than noise.

Wild Origins is here to help. Its here to stay!
Stay wild Australia.

It’s exciting to see deer hunting for the sustainable use of wildlife reaching mainstream viewing 👏

Check out this recent article featuring Manu Feildel on Channel 7’s new show. It’s sparking discussion around wild harvest, food origins, and our connection to the natural world.

There’s also a poll asking whether this kind of content is suitable for mainstream TV, a valuable opportunity to share your perspective and help shape the conversation.

If anyone has contact details for Manu Feildel or Colin Fassnidge, Wild Origins Australia would love to connect and explore a conversation for our podcast.

The My Kitchen Rules judge shocked viewers with his surprisingly brutal act in his new travel show with Colin Fassnidge. Read more.

There’s a lot of opinions out there about deer and hunting. Fortunately, we don’t need to jump to conclusions, science backs up what hunters have known for a long time.

✴️Net growth in deer numbers with hunting removals is estimated at ~2–9% per year, consistent with the 2019 report which found net growth of ~5% annually. (2024 Aerial Survey of Fallow Deer in Tasmania – Summary Report; 2019 Tasmanian Deer Aerial Survey Report)

✴️The natural growth rate without hunting pressure is estimated at around 27% per year — meaning hunting is already suppressing what would otherwise be explosive population growth. (2019 Tasmanian Deer Aerial Survey Report)

✴️Deer-related hunting contributed $29.3 million to Tasmania’s Gross State Product and supported 223 FTE jobs in 2022. (Economic Contribution of Recreational Hunting and Shooting to the Tasmanian Economy, 2023)

✴️Recreational hunting and shooting overall supported 676 jobs and contributed $88.4 million to Tasmania’s Gross State Product in 2022. (Economic Contribution of Recreational Hunting and Shooting to the Tasmanian Economy, 2023)

✴️Venison provides households with a lean, sustainable, high-quality protein source.

✴️Hunting is self-funded: hunters cover their own costs, reducing the burden on taxpayers.
