Harmony Bridge: Ukraine-Australia is delighted to support another meaningful charitable initiative.

This time, we are proud to join the DOST fundraising concert in support of refugees.

Alongside its important charitable mission, this concert offers a unique artistic experience. The program features exclusively Australian music, providing audiences with a wonderful opportunity to discover the richness and diversity of Australia's contemporary musical voice.

Harmony Bridge is honoured to present Sati and Satya by Australian composer Jessica Wells. The composition unfolds in two contrasting movements:

🇦🇺 Maksym Berezovsky — a Ukrainian Composer of International Significance

A cultural and educational presentation dedicated to the life and work of Maksym Berezovsky, one of the founders of Ukrainian classical music and a composer of European significance, was held at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral Sts Peter and Paul.

Those attending learned about his remarkable life, his musical legacy, and his lasting contribution to Ukrainian culture. The presentation was accompanied by musical performances and visual materials, offering a deeper appreciation of this outstanding Ukrainian composer.

Preserving the legacy of prominent Ukrainian cultural figures and sharing their stories with future generations remains an important part of our community's mission 💙💛

У Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral Sts Peter and Paul відбулася культурно-просвітницька зустріч, присвячена життю і творчості Максима Березовського — одного з основоположників української професійної музики та композитора європейського масштабу.

Учасники дізналися більше про його життєвий шлях, музичну спадщину та значення його творчості для української культури. Зустріч супроводжувалася музичними творами та ілюстративними матеріалами, що допомогли глибше відчути постать видатного українського митця.

Зберігати пам'ять про українських діячів культури та відкривати їхню спадщину сучасному поколінню — важлива частина нашої спільної роботи 💙💛

History is unfolding before our eyes, and from immense pain, powerful art is being born.

On June 4, 2026, the concert premiere of Mothers of Kherson, the new opera by Ukrainian composer Maksym Kolomiiets, took place at the National Opera of Ukraine.

The event brought together prominent Ukrainian and international guests. Opening remarks were delivered by Tetiana Berezhna and Peter Gelb. Among those in attendance were Olena Zelenska, whose patronage supports the opera’s future productions in Warsaw and New York, Yuliia Svyrydenko, and members of the diplomatic community.

The performance featured the Orchestra and Chorus of the National Opera of Ukraine, the Children's Choir of the M. V. Lysenko Kyiv State Musical Theatre, and the National Ensemble of Soloists Kyiv Camerata.

The evening was conducted by Keri-Lynn Wilson.

Mothers of Kherson tells stories inspired by real events — the struggle of Ukrainian mothers seeking to bring home children forcibly taken to Russia during the war. It is a work that transforms tragedy into memory, testimony, and music.

Ми стаємо свідками того, як твориться історія, і як із великого болю народжується велике мистецтво.

4 червня 2026 року на сцені Національної опери України відбулася концертна прем’єра опери «Матері Херсона» українського композитора Максим Коломієць.

Подія зібрала провідних українських та міжнародних гостей. З вітальними промовами виступили Тетяна Бережна та Пітер Гелб. У залі були присутні Олена Зеленська, під патронатом якої реалізується проєкт майбутніх постановок опери у Варшаві та Нью-Йорку, Юлія Свириденко, а також представники дипломатичного корпусу.

У виконанні взяли участь оркестр і хор Національної опери України, дитячий хор Київського державного музичного театру імені М. В. Лисенка та Національний ансамбль солістів «Київська камерата».

За диригентським пультом — Кері-Лінн Вілсон.

«Матері Херсона» — це опера, заснована на реальних подіях, історіях українських матерів, які борються за повернення своїх дітей, незаконно вивезених до Росії. Це музика, що перетворює біль на пам’ять, свідчення та мистецтво.

Ukrainian music continues its confident journey across the world, despite the war.

One of the world's most prestigious opera companies, the Metropolitan Opera, has commissioned Ukrainian composer Maxim Kolomiiets to create the opera "Mothers of Kherson."

The opera tells three true stories of Ukrainian women fighting to bring back their children who were abducted to Russia during the war. The libretto was written by acclaimed American playwright George Brant.

The opera will be staged at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw in 2026 and will make its New York debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2027.

Today, June 4, Kyiv hosts the opera's first concert performance, presented by the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra under the baton of conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson.

We wish this important project every success and look forward to following new achievements of Ukrainian musical culture on the world stage.

Українська музика впевнено крокує світом, незважаючи на війну.

Один із найпрестижніших оперних театрів світу — Metropolitan Opera — замовив українському композитору Максиму Коломієць створення опери «Матері Херсона».

В основі сюжету — три реальні історії українських жінок, які намагаються повернути своїх дітей, викрадених до Росії під час війни. Лібрето написав відомий американський драматург George Brant.

Прем'єра опери відбудеться у 2026 році у Polish National Opera у Варшаві, а у 2027 році твір буде представлений на сцені Metropolitan Opera в Нью-Йорку.

А вже сьогодні, 4 червня, у Києві відбудеться перше концертне виконання опери. Її представить Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra під орудою диригентки Keri-Lynn Wilson.

Щиро бажаємо успіху цьому важливому проєкту та продовжуємо стежити за новими досягненнями української музичної культури.

150 років ЕМСЬкому Указу
Знаємо, українську мову в Україні забороняли постійно, але серед цих заборон особливо був помітний Емський указ. А чому Емський?
Бо Указ був виданий у німецькому курорті Бад -Емсі російським імператором Олександром ІІ у 1876 році. Указ був таємним, але він повністю забороняв український книгодрук, ввезення українськи книжок з закордону та накладав драконівські обмеження на українську культуру. Указ став продовженням "Валуєвського циркуляру", за яким "окремої малоросійської мови не було, не має і бути не може"
Царська влада не приховувала, що заборона має на меті запобігти "можливості відділення, хоча і в далекій будуччині, України від Росії".
Не відпочивалося імператору Олександру ІІ спокійно, у ванні не лежалося від страху, що Україна піде власним шляхом без Росії.
- Бо що таке Росія без України?
- Правильно - азійська провінція.
- А з Україною - це європейська цивілізація.
От дотепер і воюємо.
Мова - це міцна зброя та маркер цивілізації.

Тому, всі переходимо на рідну українську та забуваємо варварську російську.
Кожна слово рідною мовою - це донат у скарбницю нашої перемоги.
150 years of the Ems Decree
We know that the Ukrainian language was constantly banned in Ukraine, but among these bans, the Ems Decree was especially noticeable. And why the Ems Decree?
Because the Decree was issued in the German resort of Bad Ems by the Russian Emperor Alexander II in 1876. The decree was secret, but it completely banned Ukrainian book printing, the import of Ukrainian books from abroad and imposed draconian restrictions on Ukrainian culture. The decree became a continuation of the "Valuev Circular", according to which "there was no, there should not be and there cannot be a separate Little Russian language"
The tsarist authorities did not hide that the ban was aimed at preventing "the possibility of separation, albeit in the distant future, of Ukraine from Russia".
Emperor Alexander II did not rest peacefully, he did not lie in the bath for fear that Ukraine would go its own way without Russia.
- Because what is Russia without Ukraine?
- That's right, an Asian province.
- And with Ukraine - it's European civilization
That's why we're still at war.
Language is a strong weapon and a marker of civilization.

Therefore, we all switch to our native Ukrainian and forget the barbaric Russian.
Every word in our native language is a donation to the treasury of our victory.

🇺🇦 Ukrainian music brings people together.

Today at the Brunswick Neighbourhood House Chatting Cafe, I had the pleasure of speaking about Ukrainian music and the mission of Harmony Bridge: Ukraine–Australia.

We talked about how music helps us discover new cultures, find common ground, and build bridges between people and countries. And, of course, Ukrainian music was at the heart of the conversation — carrying our history, memory, and the voice of Ukraine.

Thank you to everyone who listened, asked questions, and joined this musical journey of discovery. 💙💛
