“Sounds like every builder in Australia.”

That’s a comment I got on my last video about a client ripping a tradie off.

And I couldn’t agree more.

It’s not every builder ... but it might as well be.

There’s a plumber on the platform right now who got done ten grand by one.
That review is up so the next bloke doesn’t walk into the same job blind.

And the good builders?

It works the same way for them.

This client jumped on a plane while the invoice sat unpaid.

Ignored every phone call … every message.

Went and enjoyed his holiday while a tradie in Melbourne was still chasing his hard earned money.

Construction in Australia isn’t worth it … and the moneys awful…

Is a comment I received on a recent post.

And I 100% agree with him…

If I was doing the same as every other trade business out there.

Three businesses quote the same job. All show up the exact same way. Client picks the cheapest every single time.

They don’t give a f**k that you’ve been running a business for 20 years. They want you to prove it.

That’s how I won my last job. A proposal that actually sold me and my services … and a Tradie Talk profile with reviews and photos sent before it, so they’d already bought in before they saw a price.

Keep selling your “premium service” without ever actually selling it, and you’ll keep competing on price.

Most trade businesses have just accepted s**t clients and s**t tradies.

So instead of fixing it … they build systems to manage them.

Think about that 🤔.

If you don’t change anything about your business, you’re going to keep attracting the exact same people.

Where are you currently finding your tradies?
Where are you currently finding your jobs?

That’s where it starts.

It usually comes down to two things … building a better culture inside your business, and learning how to show that culture off online, and market your business correctly.

Jump in, add photos of your work, and collect reviews from tradies who’ve actually worked with you … that’s what gets better trades and clients coming to you.

Trust in the trades is at an all time low.

This affects all the good tradies who are trying to do the right thing…

A business mentor recently shared a story with me ... not a tradie himself, but he got some work done at his house while he wasn’t there.

He contracted the tradies online, their profile looked fine ... turned out they were unqualified and absolutely took him for a ride and cooked the job.

The dodgy ones keep getting away with it because there’s no way to check who you’re actually hiring and working with until it’s too late.

We’ve all had to deal with the consequences of these dodgy tradies’ actions.

Good trades businesses should not be made to compete on price.

You’ve busted your ass, got your business to where it’s at today... only to start losing on price to guys with half the skill and knowledge.

I hear this time and time again from different businesses, and this is exactly what Robin from Robin Reffo is currently experiencing with his team of 7 skilled carpenters who’d run all over his supposed competition.

Unfortunately that’s what the trades have come to, so we’re fixing it.

We’re working closely with Robin and other users on the platform, to build out profiles that actually show their worth… reviews and proof that attract clients right now, when they’re deciding who to hire.

And when the job board launches very soon, they’ll be first in and ready to win the jobs and trades they deserve.

Most tradies will finish the day, and never reflect on what they just did.

But here’s a simple tip to change that… 👇

When you get in the car open ChatGPT, chuck on voice mode, and just talk to it.

Everything you did that day.
Where you screwed up.
How you solved it.

This helped with my memory so much.

The next morning … do the same on the way in.

I’m all for calling out bad clients … hell that’s why we exist.

But c’mon, this client has every right to be asking for a discount.
