Meet Annie!

After being found with an injured wing and needing a safe place to rest for a while, it was discovered that Annie’s interesting eye colour was actually a genetic condition that means her vision is limited, but don’t worry, she certainly isn’t!

Despite her condition, Annie is a tenacious and determined bird, who has very quickly learned how to slow her flight to give herself a little extra time to calculate her landings. When on the ground, she is intent on her mission, whatever it may be, exploring, foraging, climbing you or looking very closely at your face.

She is a young bird with lots of energy and would do best in a space that doesn’t change too often, and has high contrasting colours.

Annie is apart of our assisted rehoming program.

St Vincent de Paul is looking for his forever home!

A member of the public was leaving their workplace late one night and found a little pigeon walking around the front of the building. The pigeon then followed her to her car and waited patiently behind the back wheel until she carefully scooped him up and placed him in the front passenger seat.

He was handed into a vet clinic where he quickly captured the hearts of the vet nurses by being a naughty little trouble maker, playfully biting at their hands and cooing softly while they checked him over.

St Vincent de Paul is a very sweet pigeon who loves to be the centre of attention. He is very curious and will deligently supervise the goings on of the household.

He loves to be handled and will happily fly around and land on your head or shoulders. He loves pats under his neck and to play fight with your hands.

He is very happy with human companionship but would probably like a bird friend or two as well.

Vinnie is likely a hand raised pigeon released with the intention of integrating back into the wild. Please make sure you are aware of the behavioural differences of hand reared males.

Vinnie is apart of our assisted rehoming program.

LUCKY LAST!

These two folks are our last birds for a little bit as we close for new intakes until later this month.

These friends have been waiting to come here a while. Mr Upside Down (left) is an ex racing pigeon who is suspected to have contracted paramyxovirus earlier this year and has remaining neurological symptoms. His friend is partially blind in one eye. Thank you Dr Bec for looking after them in the meantime.

If you have found a pigeon, please be patient as response time may be delayed. Whilst we can’t rescue new birds currently, we will direct you in the right direction.

We love when rescue stories go full circle!

When rescued pigeon Crumpet was collected to be transported to us, he had apparently been in the companionship of another pigeon friend he was found with, but transferred here because he apparently wasn’t as friendly.

However, it was completely normal for Crumpet to be cautious. As prey animals, pigeons are hardwired to be naturally timid and hyper aware of their surroundings, even more so after being rescued and amongst several new environments in a short span of time.

Pigeon behaviour is widely misunderstood and we were surprised to see that Crumpet, in contrast to previous remarks, was a rather gentle boy! Unfortunately he had multiple gut imbalances that required treatment longterm before he was ready for adoption.

Crumpet has since been adopted by Charlie who initially went to collect and transport him. Crumpet now enjoys his days being a pampered housepet who loves the company of people. 😁

Puffball was rescued one year ago!

After being lost and attacked by crows, Puff found himself in a lot of trouble. One year on it is hard to imagine anything was hurt at all!

At 12 years of age, Puff is a senior pigeon and has settled in well. He looks to flirt with Squishy (despite other ladies being available). He has not succeeded winning her from Brain after many months of trying. Maybe one day 🥴

You can read more about Puff’s story here https://www.facebook.com/share/18KhhGaMQw/?mibextid=wwXIfr
