Behind the scenes: Banquette + Leather Masterclass 🪑

Our Tasmanian branch got hands-on with Mickey from diving into the craft behind banquette seating: foam densities, fire compliance, detailing techniques (top stitching, box cushions, French stitching), fabric direction, and what makes a seating angle truly comfortable.

Then Nicole Harris from walked us through the world of leather - aniline, semi-aniline, and pigmented - including a full cowhide that reminded us natural markings aren’t flaws, they’re character.

A great day learning from two generous experts. 🙌

It was wonderful to see the Tasmanian design community come together at Brickworks last Friday for Designer’s Connect Launceston 🙌

A relaxed evening of good conversation and great connections - exactly what this industry runs on. A huge thank you to for their generous support, and to everyone who joined us.

Keep an eye out for more DIA Tas events coming soon.

⏰ Last chance to have your say - survey closes Monday.

If you work in Service Design or Strategic Design, we need your expertise.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is reviewing how design occupations are defined in OSCA - Australia's official occupational classification framework. The outcome will shape how designers are recognised, measured and valued for years to come.

The DIA is proposing that Service Design and Strategic Design be added to OSCA. We have drafted proposed descriptions and task lists for both Service Design and Strategic Design and we want to know: do they reflect your practice?

The survey takes just 5 minutes. Your input directly informs our formal submission to the ABS. Survey closes Monday 13th April.

Calling all NSW members...

Kick off the year with your fellow DIA members! Join us for a relaxed evening of drinks, conversation, and connection at The Winery, Surry Hills.

We'll have a casual meet and greet followed by a start-of-year town hall - a chance to hear what's ahead for the design community in 2026 and share your thoughts on what matters most.

Whether you're a long-time member or newly joined, this is your night to connect, catch up, and help shape the year ahead.

Welcome drink and light catering included with ticket - book via DIA website, link in bio.

We look forward to seeing you there!

DIA events are presented with the support of our Community Partner Clipsal.

Be counted. Be recognised.

The Design Institute of Australia is leading a national survey to inform its submission to the Australian Bureau of Statistics for the 2027 update of the Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA) - the framework that shapes how designers are recognised across education, workforce policy and migration pathways in Australia.

The survey takes approximately 15 minutes and is open to all practising designers across disciplines, industries and career stages. You don’t need to be a DIA member to participate.

This is your opportunity to contribute directly to the evidence underpinning DIA’s national advocacy for the profession.

If design isn’t counted, designers don’t count!
