We, the Auschin Foundation and Chin-Myanmar Community Care, were honored to participate in the Culture of Brimbank, People of Myanmar event.

We were grateful for the opportunity to showcase and sell our traditional clothing and handmade candles, created by refugees from Myanmar. Your generous support contributes to improving the lives of those facing hunger and hardship back in Myanmar.

Together, we can continue to make a meaningful difference!

We had the honor of welcoming members of Brimbank Council to the AusChin Foundation Office. It was a meaningful opportunity to share our ongoing initiatives and collaborate on new ways to support and empower our local communities.

We sincerely appreciate the Council’s continued partnership and dedication to fostering a multicultural, inclusive Brimbank. Together, we are working towards positive change and a resilient, united community for all.

Special thanks to Lynley Dumble for your leadership and unwavering dedication, as well as all departments of Brimbank Council for your support.

As one of the service providers in Brimbank, we had the privilege of joining the Brimbank Service Provider Network's quarterly meeting today! We are encouraged by the discussions and look forward to opportunities for collaboration for the future.

Special thanks to Stephen Sibanda from the Brimbank City Council and Alex Smith from The Orange Door for the warm invitation and welcome. The Orange Door is an intake and assessment service for people who experience family violence and/or child wellbeing support needs. In the Brimbank and Melton area, they began services in Cobblebank in October 2022 and then opened the Sunshine office to clients in August 2023. The Brimbank Melton Area hub was the second-last site to be opened, and now the whole Victorian population is covered by Orange Door service. We learnt so much and are excited to share these resources with our community.

What's an event without great food? We're so excited that our friends at Chin Taungtan are putting together a special tasting menu for our guests at Bridges of Friendship!

They're preparing a thoughtful selection of classic Burmese dishes, all made fresh from scratch. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience a taste of home and culture.

Join us in celebration and connection on Friday, 19 September at 34 Cromer Avenue, Sunshine North from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Our team had the opportunity to attend the University of Melbourne’s Multicultural Engagement Forum this week, joining over 170 participants to discuss how we can build a better educational future for all, especially for our young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. Many members of our Chin-Myanmar community are preparing for their VCE exams and applying to universities. It’s important to continue representing our children’s interests in the educational system. It was an inspiring day dedicated to exploring ways to strengthen education pathways for multicultural communities in Melbourne's west and inner north.

Among the panellists was Raviana Sailo, our Strategic Programs and Partnerships Lead from the AusChin Foundation. Raviana shared valuable insights from her lived experience, emphasising the significance of representation and identity and the necessity of empowering communities and their families. Her advocacy for decentralising systems, developing dignity-centred programs, and inspiring young people to dream big truly resonated with us. We always say that our children are the future leaders, and we are committed to making their educational pathways and access to tertiary learning more accessible and welcoming.

It's a privilege to have met Dr. Sasa, shared a meal with him, shown him some of our work, and learned from one of our most prolific humanitarian leaders.

To add to this honour, we participated as community speakers at Dr. Sasa's Public Meeting with various Myanmar communities in Victoria, organised by the Myanmar Campaign Network. As we reflect on our discussion with Dr Sasa and his encouragement to keep striving for our homeland's freedom, we wish to share some key points from our presentation and our mission for our community both here and in Myanmar.

Last Friday, our School Holiday Program hosted a Soccer Tournament. Ten teams played to keep our youth active while reminding ourselves of the values of sportsmanship and youth empowerment. With players from Burmese, African, Middle Eastern, and Australian backgrounds, we discussed the power of sport to demonstrate harmony, diversity, and respect wordlessly.

HWPL graced us with a presentation that reminded us that peace begins on and off the field. Participants shared what peace and diversity mean in their native languages, reminding us that the feeling is a universal language everyone can live by daily. Further, we are grateful to our distinguished guests whose presence and words of encouragement added value to the event, including:
- MP Hon Dr. Daniel Mulino, Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services
- Thuy Dang, Mayor of Brimbank Council
- Emmanuel Asiedu, Department of Justice and Community Safety
- Bwe Thay, Deputy Chairperson of Victoria Multicultural Communications
- Dr. Sasa, NUG Minister and Humanitarian Myanmar’s UN Special Envoy

We want to give a special thanks to our incredible team and volunteers, who are dedicated to and believe in our mission to unify our community and uplift our youth. We also thank our sponsor, AusChin Group, for financially supporting this program and ensuring the tradition of the School Holiday Program and Soccer Tournament can continue.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to each participant and team, and repeat our main message that you are the future leaders making a meaningful difference in our community. Thank you for your support and commitment to fostering peace and unity through sport.

Tonight, we proudly watched as Jacob Thang, Michael Foldi, and Raviana Sailo spoke on SBS World News about the Chin-Myanmar community in Australia. We celebrated a meaningful partnership between Mondelēz International and the Chin community, creating vital employment opportunities at their new National Distribution Centre in Truganina.

This collaboration is more than just jobs; it's a step towards empowering our community members, enabling them to support their families here and back home. It strengthens our ongoing mission to rebuild and uplift our people in many ways. However, this necessity to send money back isn't where we want to be; we want a future where our families can live in peace, free from conflict and bombing, rather than relying on each other like this to survive. Every global family deserves the chance to live peacefully and reach their full potential in their homeland.

While we are grateful for this visibility, we recognise this is just one step. We remain committed to creating more pathways for our community in workplaces like Mondelēz International, and we will continue to advocate and fight against the immense challenges faced in Myanmar.

We are truly honored to have received an invitation from the Australian Karen Organisation to attend today’s Refugee Week celebration. It was an inspiring event filled with incredible leaders, champions, and friends from diverse communities.

Congratulations to Alison Mynard, Viv Nguyen (Victorian Multicultural Commission Chairperson), Lester, and Bwe Thay — your dedication and leadership exemplify the heroes of tomorrow. Your contributions genuinely embody the spirit of unity, compassion, and resilience that Refugee Week stands for.

Today’s gathering brought together leaders from many refugee-background communities, united in solidarity, strength, and shared purpose. It was a heartfelt celebration of what we can accomplish together — building stronger, more cohesive, and welcoming communities.

A special thank you to the Australian Karen Organisation and all community leaders for your warmth and hospitality. Your work is truly inspiring!

Together, we continue to foster a future built on understanding, inclusion, and hope.
