The mighty Mulloway is a bucket list species for many of you keen anglers out there – and we want your thoughts on proposed changes aiming to help more anglers experience this elusive estuarine fish.

Following our review of the latest science and conversations with anglers, we’re now consulting broadly on the following proposed Mulloway Improvement Program.

It’s a package of short, medium, and long-term actions aimed to create a stronger and thriving mulloway fishery in Victoria, including:
➡️ Change current bag limit of 5 mulloway per person per day to 2 mulloway per person per day – a more reasonable day’s take if we want to maintain healthy fisheries.
➡️ Change minimum size limit from 60cm to 70cm – this will give the species around 10 months further protection in estuaries, allow more fish to reach spawning size, and align the limit with New South Wales.
➡️ Restart a dedicated angler tagging program for Mulloway to continue understanding growth, movement and connectivity of the species, complementing tagging programs in South Australia and New South Wales.
➡️ Expand on a project to scientifically track mulloway around Melbourne Rivers to better understand mulloway habitat use, spawning and movement, particularly with respect to flows.
➡️ Trial the stocking of Mulloway in key Victorian estuaries to improve populations and fisheries for the species.

Have your say and provide feedback by 15 August 2026. Find out more here: www.vfa.vic.gov.au/mulloway

Picked up some copies of ‘Lines in the Water’, a story of Canberra Game Fishing Clubs history.

Thanks Judy for delivering these to us and hopefully inspire other clubs to document their vast histories.

Should be a great read.

Judy expressed her deep gratitude to Swordfish and Tunny Club members Tim Simpson and Scott Gowland whom provided the Foreward and Layout respectively.

If anyone would like a copy, please don’t hesitate to contact admin here or Judy Sillis of Canberra Game Fishing Club.
