Our Windows for Change display is live for Homelessness Week.

This month, our Flemington Road window is filled with handmade origami houses crafted by our staff and one loud and clear message:

Homelessness Week is a reminder that homelessness can affect anyone, and that ending it takes action from all of us.

More than 146,000 Victorian families don't have safe, suitable or affordable housing.

People need safe, affordable housing and support before challenges reach a crisis point.

AusAlert national test on Monday 27 July

Australia will test its new emergency warning system, AusAlert, at 2pm AEST on Monday 27 July.

The alert may make a loud sound, even if a phone is on Silent or Do Not Disturb.

If you keep a phone hidden for safety reasons, now is a good time to think about a plan.

NAIDOC Week 2026 | 50 Years of Deadly

This week, we celebrate the extraordinary contributions, leadership and enduring cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

One of the highlights of our NAIDOC Week was attending Aboriginal Housing Victoria's 25th Annual NAIDOC Family Day at the Aborigines Advancement League in Thornbury, a day filled with culture, community, storytelling and celebration.

Events like these remind us why our Reconciliation Action Plan matters. They create opportunities to build stronger relationships, deepen our understanding, and ensure reconciliation is not just a commitment on paper, but something we actively live and practice.

This NAIDOC Week, we celebrate the generations of First Nations peoples who have led change, strengthened communities, protected culture and paved the way for future generations.

We’re announcing an important step in how we support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Following a successful 12-month Strategic Alliance, Unison will assume governance responsibility for Wombat.

For our community, this means better coordination behind the scenes. Both organisations will remain operationally independent, and Wombat will continue to operate business as usual.

“This is modern governance in action, responding to today’s challenges by strengthening the connection between housing and support,” said Wombat Housing Support Services Board Chair Tara Durdin.

Today we’re sharing an important step forward in how we support people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

We know this closer alignment leads to more consistent and sustainable outcomes — especially when people need stability, continuity, and the right support at the right time.

Wombat will continue to operate as an independent organisation, while together we will build a more integrated and effective homelessness, housing, and support system.

This National Reconciliation Week, Wombat is proud to officially launch our Reconciliation Action Plan and dedicated RAP webpage.

This is a big step for Wombat, and one shaped by reflection, honest conversations, challenge and hard work.

Our RAP has been developed through the commitment of people across the organisation, including the generous contributions of First Nations staff who shared their artwork, experience, wisdom and guidance throughout the process.

The 2026 National Reconciliation Week theme is All In. For Wombat, being all in means continuing to listen, learn, build respectful relationships and take practical action beyond this week.
