Meet Charlotte Follett, Australia’s Skillaroo for Floristry 🌸

A visual learner from the start, Charlotte found her place in floristry after work experience sparked a love for creating.

That passion took her from WorldSkills Regionals to Gold at the 2025 National Championships.
“It pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but the experience taught me that I really do have confidence.”

This week, Charlotte also joined fellow Skillaroos at the National Skills Week launch in Canberra with Minister Andrew Giles.

Next stop: representing Australia on the world stage.

National Skills Week 2026 is underway.

Today’s national launch in Canberra brought together government, industry, training providers and VET advocates to celebrate the role skills play in Australia’s future, and this year’s theme: Life Changing.

Our Skillaroos were recognised throughout the morning by Minister Giles and wished well as they continue preparing to represent Australia in Shanghai.

Their Canberra visit also included time at the Chinese Embassy, another meaningful step in the lead-up to international competition.

A strong reminder of where skills, opportunity and ambition can lead.

Shanghai is getting closer for Skillaroo Will Nickl 🇦🇺

After putting his skills to the test at the Global Skills Challenge, Will is continuing his preparation to represent Australia on the world stage.

That journey was recently recognised closer to home too, with Will invited to attend a Highlands Collective Inc event alongside family, supporters from Gumnut, and local representatives Judy Hannan MP and Carol Berry MP.

Plenty more preparation still to come.

Next stop: Shanghai. 🇦🇺

After winning Gold at the WorldSkills Australia National Championships, Emilie discovered something important about herself: she thrives under pressure.

Graphic design brings creativity and technical precision together, requiring designers to interpret a brief, solve problems and communicate ideas clearly.

Now, Emilie is continuing to sharpen her skills as she prepares to represent Australia in Shanghai.

Bailey Lowes’ pathway into Industrial Mechanics began through a VET metals program at high school.

What started as an introduction to fitting and machining has developed into a pursuit of excellence built on precision, accuracy and technical problem-solving.

In Industrial Mechanics, even the smallest measurement can make a significant difference. It requires patience, control and the ability to produce consistently accurate work.

Bailey has since competed at the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Championships and achieved gold at the Global Skills Challenge.

Now, the Skillaroo is preparing to represent Australia in Shanghai, where he will put that precision to the test against some of the world’s best young skilled professionals.

Regional Competitions are where Australia's next generation of skilled professionals step
up.

Recently, TAFE NSW Wollongbar hosted WorldSkills Australia Regional Competitions in Turning and Hairdressing for the Northern Rivers region, with competitors putting their
technical skills, creativity and professionalism to the test.

These events are only possible thanks to the commitment of educators, convenors, judges, volunteers, employers and industry partners who invest in developing the next generation of skilled talent.

Thank you to everyone who helped make both competitions a success.

Every Regional Competition is another step towards Australia's next WorldSkills
champions.
