Nominations for Branch Conference are now open and close on 20 May!

Branch Conference is where members set the direction of our union. It is our chance to debate the big issues, shape union policy, and decide how we organise collectively for justice in our schools and communities.

This year, delegates will be debating motions on:

• Palestine and anti-war policy

• Industrial action policy

• Occupational Health and Safety policy that puts prevention, proper resourcing and real support first — not punishment, exclusion and criminalisation.

Nomination forms have been sent to all AEU members by the union, and nominating is quick and easy.

This Saturday, 10am- 1pm, join and at our annual picnic for Palestine at Treasury Gardens across from the Victorian Government Department of Education, at 2 Treasury place for an anti-militarisation themed ANZAC day of craft and reading.

Let’s come together as a community to show our complete rejection of any and all attempts to militarise our children and education system.

Let’s remind the Victorian Department of Education that teachers and school staff will continue to defy their demand to remain neutral in the face of genocide.

And that as a community we will continue to stand together and tell the truth about genocide and state violence here on this continent.

No to state sanctioned violence, anywhere! No war in Iran! Until Palestine is free!

Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah couldn’t make it to our forum, but the staunch anti-racist resistance and Palestine solidarity she inspires was abundant. We passed this motion unanimously:

This meeting stands in solidarity with Randa Abdel-Fattah, and opposes the relentless racist attacks against her by media, premiers, politicians and institutional supporters of Israel’s genocide. We draw inspiration from her principled political stand and we commit to replicating her open resistance to repression and her opposition to Israel’s terrorism.

Thanks to everyone who attended and was a part of yesterday’s forum especially our speakers. The live video will be uploaded next week. Resources from teacher workshops will also be available on our website soon.

PEACE IS UNION BUSINESS Forum

The AEU Victoria Branch () is hosting a forum with Saed Erziqat, General Secretary of the General Union of Palestinian Teachers and AEU Federal President, Correna Haythorpe, at the union’s office in Abbotsford.

The forum is an opportunity to learn about the ongoing situation for teachers and their students in the region, and to hear about Education International and the AEU’s efforts to provide support, including how training has been delivered to help equip Palestinian teachers with skills to enable - vital emotional support to their students who are traumatised by war, genocide, and mass displacement.

Teachers and School Staff for Palestine members will be attending with resources to share.
