Late last year, a fire swept through Dhaka’s Korail slum, spreading rapidly through densely packed homes and leaving many families with nothing.

Sharmin is now preparing to distribute care packages of essential hygiene and nutrition supplies, including washable sanitary pads, to 1,000 women and girls whose homes were destroyed.

With support from a group of Just Peoples supporters who pooled their funding, Sharmin is now able to bring this urgent relief to women and girls who need it most. 💛

A core part of the Mighty Million impact is building a pool of funds that enables Just Peoples to release immediate support - so local leaders can respond quickly when emergencies like this hit their communities.

If you’d like to be part of the Mighty Million - a million people (eventually!) helping local leaders do what they do best - you’re so welcome. 😍

Happy 2026 - it's gonna be a goodie!!

Because...

This is the year Just Peoples goes MASSIVE and moves from tackling global poverty, to starting to eliminate it. Yes. It's bold and audacious but we've got a plan and you're invited to come along for the ride!

But just so you know, it'll cost you 10 bucks. 🤑

We're asking a million people to donate a tenner so we can create a serious dent in poverty while showing people that we truly can create a beautiful world together when we join hands and pool funding at scale.

Can you spare $10 to save the world?
(Given the chaos of 2025... can we really afford not to?)

This is what we'd like you to pretty please do:

1) Go to mightymillion.justpeoples.org and donate ten generous dollars

2) Join the Mighty Million! Your donation will give you access to a very special community with a million (eventually) people like you who want humanity to create more good than it currently is. 🌍💛

LET'S DO THIS!!

🌟Merry Christmas! 🌟Well, we do hope it's merry. You know how Christmas can be...

A glorious family reunion filled with joy, heart-warming generosity and the most delicious food of the year, where you feel absolutely filled with the falalalala of it all!

But it can go in another direction, too.

The family reunion can be fraught to say the least, preparing the feast can cause a nervous breakdown and the politics of gift-giving can replace joy with passive aggression.

How can one beloved tradition bring out the best and the worst of us?

It's fascinating, I think. And it's something we've been mulling over a lot at Just Peoples - how humans can create love-joy-peace or contempt-stress-bitterness in any given moment.

You may be familiar with the famous Cherokee parable about each person having two wolves fighting inside them: a good wolf and a bad wolf. And which one wins the fight?

The one you feed.

So with this in mind, in 2026 we're running a campaign (or a global movement if you will) to encourage humanity to feed our collective good wolf and spread warm-hearted compassion to those who need our support. It's going to change the world, if you ask me. But more on that on Jan 1st!

In the meantime, we're taking this holiday season as an opportunity to practice choosing love over fear, and embracing the joy of community over division and resentment.

Joy to the world, and to you!

Falalalalaa,

The Just Peoples community 😍🌍

We know AI can get a bad rap 🤖
But it’s amazing to see the ways it can be used for good!

Our co-founder Johanna is passionate about exploring how technology can open up opportunities for communities often left behind.

And Madalitso, who’s doing incredible work using AI to create real impact with ACADES Malawi, brings so much insight and expertise to the conversation. 💡

This week, Jo and Mada co-facilitated the AI for Change session at Opportunity Collaboration (OC) in Portugal with Silicon Valley guru, Jim Fruchterman.

They led a hands-on challenge where groups designed AI solutions for real-world global issues.

Let’s keep pushing for a future where tech actually works for everyone! 💛

When I was broke, I was wildly stingy and not nearly as kind as I thought I was. Jo’s favourite story is the time I put a sandwich through airport security and after the flaps by the x-ray machine swiped the lid off it, I reassembled it and ate it so I didn’t have to spend a dollar on breakfast. 💵🔒

But here’s an embarrassing admission: when I was doing my Master’s research in the Philippines, I haggled with a rickshaw driver over five pesos. That’s 10 cents. I thought I had the right to pay what locals paid, since I was a resident (temporarily) with $500 in the bank and no income. Once my $500 was gone, so was I. 😬

My boyfriend embarrassingly caught me haggling over 10c, but he ended up teaching me a very valuable lesson.

This is Madalitso and she’s amazing. Her work is - you know it - completely transformative.

Learn how she’s getting young Malawians excited about agriculture, helping to feed her people and reducing the unemployment rate at justpeoples.org/leaders/madalitso.

She’s also created an AI app to make sure farmers have access to all the info they need for successful crops.🌾

And on a personal note, she’s hilarious!😍

🚫👰These young girls are campaigning to convince their community that they should be at least 18 before they get married. And that they deserve to be educated.

In rural Bangladesh, where brides' families pay high dowry costs to the grooms' families - that get more expensive the older the bride is - girls are often seen as a financial burden. And when their role in life is to serve a husband, there’s a pervasive belief that there's no point in them getting educated.

But it’s not "just" giving up your education and marrying an old man that’s the problem - child marriage also leads to higher rates of gender-based violence, unwanted pregnancies, domestic servitude and overall disempowerment for women.

In August 2024, we supported Eve at AMAL Foundation to run a project to prevent child marriage in the Char Shonpocha region by providing interest-free business loans to low-resource families. The condition was that their daughters had to stay in school and couldn't get married until the legal age of 18.

23 families received these loans and paid them back within the required 6-month period. The money was reinvested, and their incomes have continued to grow. Their daughters are now not only being educated but are seen as assets rather than liabilities.

This is progress! 🤝💖

This week, we received a donation of AUD $2,000 for this project. We spoke with Eve who told us that for every A$450, one family can receive support that will save their teenage daughter from being married off.

Before Eve's team gets to work saving four more girls, we wanted to offer the opportunity for you to get involved and help us reach more families. What do you say? And in a few months' time, we'll let you know how they're getting on.

If you're up for it, head to justpeoples.org/projects/child-marriage to make your donation 💜👧🎓

Oh my goodness, we know you're going to just love Patience and her work. She's transforming Malawi's education system by having Malawian university grads provide extra-curricular teaching after school to kids in under-resourced public schools. The volunteers double as mentors to the children, showing them what their life could be if they learn, study and really make the most of their education.

This opportunity to imagine a different life is actually a key part of breaking the cycle of poverty because it raises the expectations kids have for their own lives and gives them that essential drive needed to make it happen. It's the stuff of underdog Hollywood movies. 🎬

We met Patience in Malawi in July and visited a school with 6,000 students. The government budget for the school is 50 cents per student per year. Yep. Going to school doesn't automatically equal getting educated. In low-resource countries the system needs a little support.

Patience creates literacy hubs stocked full of books, brings in graduates to teach and inspire young learners, and creates an environment where kids don't just learn to read but learn to LOVE reading, and learn to love learning. This is how society grows collectively. We love it. 😍

If you'd like to be part of this grassroots movement, you can donate to Patience at justpeoples.org/leaders/patience and we'll let you know the impact you help to create in Malawi.

Thank you!!💚📚

Jo and I (Christey) were put on The School of Visibility short course in 2019 by one of our supporters, who thought it would be valuable for us to learn how to become more visible. At the time we said, “We don’t have time for coaching, we have a million things to do and no time to do them!” But over those first four months of working with Samantha, we realised we couldn't afford NOT to do this work.

On top of learning how to be visible to the world as founders, we also crucially learned about the internal blocks that were unconsciously holding us back. It's incredible how someone telling you to keep your opinions to yourself as a child, for example, can lead you to keep your opinions to yourself as an adult. 😮

We were utterly hooked and ended up working with Samantha for four years. Her coaching covered everything from building good working habits to creating joyful ways of working, as well as strategies that helped us speak up consistently and confidently - first within our communities and then across the wider international development sector.

As a result, we became more resilient as leaders of Just Peoples, helping to ensure the sustainability of the organisation we love.❤️

Because of this, we wanted to share Samantha’s genius with the leaders we support so they could experience the transformation too - and over the last two years, we've provided grants for 19 founders from Bangladesh and East Africa to receive life-changing coaching!🔥

This video captures just a small glimpse of the huge impact Samantha's had on them and their work.

Naturally, we're continuing our partnership with the School of Visibility so more founders can learn to share their amazing work with a global audience, while strengthening their organisations and taking care of themselves as leaders. We're excited! 🎉

And so grateful to know Samantha.

🎉WE'RE TEN YEARS OLD!🎂

After a decade of Just Peoples, we're feeling reflective - and very grateful. It really is all about the people!

We simply wouldn't be here without our supporters - thousands of you across more than 40 countries! - who have funded, promoted, and enabled 220+ projects, providing poverty relief to over 260,000 people. 👏

Then there are our unsung heroes, who do so much work in the background without ever getting thanked (publicly) - our talented board members and volunteers. Ruth and Janet, in particular, have been with us almost from the very beginning. They've stuck with us through every twist and turn - evolving when we've made mistakes, learning how to be more effective, and even helping us recover from the odd gaffe.

Our team has stayed openhearted and adaptable, especially as our perspectives have been constantly reshaped by the wisdom of the remarkable people working on the ground. (Our gratitude to the local leaders goes well beyond the scope of this post.)

It really is a collective effort, and we're truly grateful to every single one of you for being part of this. Here's to ten more years of seriously impactful, beautiful teamwork. 🥰

Our hearts are SO full!
After two epic weeks in Africa with some of the greatest humans (and animals) our dear earth has ever produced, we are so grateful for genuine connections, the amazing change we've seen happening, and the deep belly laughs. 😂 💜
We'll digest, reflect and learn from our experiences over the coming weeks, but for now we're just honoured to know these generous people - local leaders, funders and change enablers - and that we get to work with them to create a better world. 🌍
Great stuff is happening, friends! 😁

✨ This International Women’s Day, let’s do more than celebrate women—let’s support them when it matters most! ✨

In Malawi, 1 in 37 babies doesn’t survive their first month of life, and many mums give birth without medical support. But together, we can change that.

🚴‍♀️ Enter Nurses on Bikes! 🚴‍♀️

With a motorbike, a nurse can reach remote communities and provide:
✔️ Pregnancy check-ups to detect complications early
✔️ Referrals for life-saving antenatal care
✔️ Support for safe facility deliveries
✔️ Postnatal visits for mums & babies in those critical first weeks

💛 This week only: Donations towards Nurses on Bikes will be matched up to $2,500💛

That means $245 will now provide a full year of healthcare for TWO mums and their babies instead of one. And $2,450 will support 20 mums & babies instead of 10!

📢 Let’s give more mums and babies in Malawi the care they deserve. Donate now and double your impact!
