16/05/2026
Today, May 17th is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination, and Transphobia).
This is significant as it is the day the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from its previous classification as a ‘disease’ in 1990.
This year’s theme is “At the heart of democracy”, a reminder that to be truly democratic, our society must be just and equal for everyone.
We still have a long way to go in the fight for LGBTQIA+ equality. 2 in 3 q***r young people in Australia face abuse for their identity and trans and gender diverse people continue to face systemic limitations and barriers to freedom of identity.
From all of us at the MSA, your identity is valid, you matter, and you deserve to be supported and celebrated.
We should all be free to live in a world without hate and discrimination.
ID: ‘IDAHOBIT 2026’ in rainbow letters. Below is the text ‘at the heart of democracy’ in cursive red font. There are multiple q***r flags of different identities held by a hand each. The background is a subtle pastel rainbow gradient. The MSA q***r logo is in the bottom right with blue orange and purple background.
