The new Foster Care Alliance in Victoria brings together foster carers, community service organisations, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and sector partners to advocate for a stronger foster care system across Victoria.

The Alliance is focused on supporting and recognising foster carers, advocating for fair funding, and ensuring more children can experience the safety, stability and belonging of family-based care.

Together, we're working to amplify the voices of carers and create better outcomes for children and young people in care.

Latest reports show that for every foster carer household that commenced care in Victoria, nearly three exited the system.

Welcome to the Foster Care Alliance

The Foster Care Alliance is a collaboration for solutions to the increasing pressures facing Victoria's foster care system. Foster carer numbers continue to decline while demand for home-based care remains high. Children entering care are presenting with increasingly complex needs, and carers are navigating growing expectations, inconsistent support and rising costs.

By bringing together foster carers, Community Service Organisation and Aboriginal organisations, the Alliance creates a forum for those directly involved in foster care to identify challenges, share expertise and advocate for practical solutions that strengthen support for carers and improve outcomes for children.

The Foster Care Alliance includes a growing number of foster carers and organisations including: Anchor Community Care Ltd., Berry Street/Yooralla, Brophy Family & Youth Services, Child and Family Services Ballarat, Foster Care Association of Victoria, Key Assets, Life Without Barriers, Lighthouse Foundation, MacKillop Family Services, Mallee Accommodation & Support Program, Mallee District Aboriginal Services, Meli, OzChild, Quantum Support Services, Upper Murray Family Care and the Victorian Aboriginal Children’s Young People Alliance.

The people closest to the challenges are often closest to the solutions. Yet too often, foster carers are left out of the conversations that shape the services and systems they rely on, and that rely on them.

The Foster Care Alliance brings together Victoria’s foster carers, Community Service Organisations and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to ensure lived experience helps inform better decisions and better outcomes in the care of children.

Victoria's foster care system faces significant challenges. Addressing them requires the experience of foster carers, service providers and Aboriginal organisations.

Today, the Foster Care Alliance launches in Victoria.

The Alliance brings together foster carers, Community Service Organisations, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and the Foster Care Association of Victoria to create a strong, evidence based, collective voice for the solutions that will strengthen foster care and improve outcomes for children.
