Most of Afghanistan’s population (86%) is at risk for human trafficking and it’s one of the hardest places on earth to be a child.

That’s why we’re so proud of our local team for recently leading two public outreach events for parents, teachers, and community leaders.

This question feels difficult to answer, because it is. Healing from trafficking and abuse is not one size fits all. So how do our global teams approach it?

Hagar Vietnam sat down with the team in Thailand last month to discuss Knowledge about Trauma, and join with other professionals who are asking this very question in their daily work.

They didn’t come with lectures. They came with questions. What have you learned that we haven’t? What do you wish someone had told you when you started this work? How has this shaped you as a professional? And in return, everyone shared their own hard-won lessons from the field.

Days like this ask us to pay attention, to be reminded that this is not a distant issue that is easy to ignore.

Trafficking doesn’t look like how we expect it to. It’s happening in communities around the world, often hidden in plain sight. Every moment of awareness, every resource, every conversation, and every act of protection brings us closer to stopping abuse in its tracks and the systems that make it possible.

That’s what we celebrate today. The knowledge, tools, and dedicated individuals and survivors who are fighting to see an end to exploitation for good.
