Today we acknowledge and recognise all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service men and women who have served in large numbers in every overseas conflict Australia has been involved in. Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service people were not respected as veterans and did not have their contributions recognised, which Communities are still fighting to have this redressed today. We also acknowledge the resistance fighters who fought against invasion and colonsiation, the wars and massacre sites on these lands must not be forgotten. Today we honour them.

There is no justice and no peace for our families and our communities who continue to lose loved ones to police violence and prison harm. Today on the 35th anniversary of the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, we remember the 630 lives lost due to governments failure to enact real systemic reform and change.
