Happy Mother's Day! 💙

We thank our serving mothers, our mothers who've raised children who've served, our mothers who've managed families and households while partners serve, and all the mothers or mother figures who've shaped us, supported us, and loved us.

A mother's love is powerful. We thank you for all that you do.

Today marks the 51st anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War (30 April 1975), when North Vietnamese forces took control of the Presidential Palace in Saigon.

The war started in 1955. Australia joined with the US and other allies in 1962, remaining in country until 1973.

During this period, nearly 60,000 Australians from all three services served in Vietnam.

523 personnel died as a result of the war, and around 3,000 were wounded.

Many of those who returned suffered both physical and mental health issues, which still impact them today.

Their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Lest we forget.

Today, as we gather to honour the Anzacs, we also pause to remember the animals who served alongside them. Their contribution is woven quietly through our history, yet it remains deeply significant to all of us. These animals didn’t understand the cause or the conflict, but they showed a kind of courage and loyalty that supported our troops in ways words can barely capture.

Horses carried soldiers and supplies across harsh landscapes; donkeys, like the one remembered from Gallipoli, brought the wounded to safety with steady, gentle steps; dogs offered companionship and protection in moments of fear and isolation; and pigeons flew through danger to deliver messages that saved lives.

As a community, we recognise that these animals carried more than equipment - they carried trust, hope, and the emotional weight of the people who depended on them. Their service helped shape the stories we honour today.

Remembering them is not separate from remembering our soldiers; it is part of the same story of endurance, sacrifice, and the bonds formed in hardship. On this Anzac Day, we acknowledge their place in our shared history and offer our gratitude for the quiet bravery they gave without question.

We Will Remember Them 🐾

Today is Kapyong Day.

Each year on 24 April, we pause to remember the Australians who fought in the Battle of Kapyong, which took place in South Korea from 23 to 25 April 1951.

It was a significant battle of the Korean War in that it helped prevent Chinese troops from capturing Seoul. However, it was costly for the Australians, with 32 killed, more than 50 wounded and 3 taken prisoner.

We will remember them. Lest we forget.
