Our Yarning Circle – A Special Day for Our Community 🌿
We were proud to be part of the Our Yarning Circle project event, welcoming representatives from nine primary schools.
The day began with a meaningful Smoking Ceremony, where all attendees were walked through the smoke to cleanse and welcome them into this special place for such an important occasion. This was followed by a Welcome to Country by Aunty Sue Kelly, with Wayne Herdigan as MC for the day.
Guests enjoyed the storytelling of Carers of Everything by Noel Nannup, performed through puppetry by local Aboriginal people and their families.
• Sarah (Outreach Worker at Oseca) puppeteered Djinda
• Matt (Project Manager at Oseca) voiced several characters
• Dave (Miranda’s husband) was the Weitj puppeteer
• Miranda (Program Manager at Oseca) supported her granddaughter Skylah, who proudly puppeteered a Koolbardi
We were also honoured to have Koby Morrison join the celebration, sharing a song he co‑wrote with local students.
The Yarning Circle is a place for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to come together, learn from one another, and connect respectfully in a peaceful setting. It also recognises those who have been displaced from their traditional country, providing a culturally safe place they can call their own.
A big thank you to Southern Forest Arts for creating the wonderful video, and to everyone who helped make this day so meaningful. 💚🌿
