🌿 Piccaninny Open Day 🌿
What a beautiful morning celebrating the official opening of the new Piccaninny office on Macalister Street.
Today marked a significant milestone with the opening of North Queensland's first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-focused Family Contact Centre. Piccaninny is dedicated to providing a culturally safe and welcoming space that supports our First Nations community, families, foster carers and children, helping to strengthen connections and nurture positive outcomes for future generations.
We are incredibly proud to see this vision become a reality and thank everyone who joined us to celebrate this special occasion.
A special thank you to:
✨ Our wonderful CEO & MC for the morning, Adrienne Barnett
✨ Samantha Bliss, Chairperson of Marabisda, for attending and helping present this important milestone.
✨ Mayor Greg Williamson for taking the time to attend and support the opening.
☕ Sunny Dayz Coffee Van for keeping everyone fuelled with great coffee.
🎈 Let's Just Face It Entertainment for bringing colour and joy with the wonderful balloon displays.
🎁 Lee and Tiwi from Marabisda for the thoughtful gifts and delicious damper.
🖤 Aunty Patsy Corrie for sharing a heartfelt Welcome to Country and helping us begin the day in a meaningful way.
🫖 Aunty Kim Barba for providing the beautiful morning tea, including damper and scones enjoyed by all.
🏝️ Bucasia Beach Quilters for their beautiful quilt donations
🎨 Mackay Hospital and Health Service for their generous donation of the stunning artwork that now proudly features throughout the Piccaninny office.
💚 Most importantly, we would like to recognise and thank the incredible Piccaninny team — Megan, Tina, Danielle, Nettie and Tiomee. Your hard work, dedication, passion and commitment to the program have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. From the planning and preparation to today's successful launch, your efforts have created a welcoming and culturally safe space that will positively impact the lives of many families, children and carers for years to come.
