Joey season has officially begun🦘

Our first two rescues are both male red kangaroos, one from Australia Plains and one from Punthari. They’re settling into care well and already starting to show their individual personalities as they adjust to their carers.

Early days like these are all about warmth, quiet routines, and giving them the safest possible start after rescue. We’re grateful to be part of their journey.

More updates to come as they grow stronger 💛

Midnight snack vibes 🐾✨

This female glider is currently living its best life in care, face deep in a well-earned feast and absolutely not sharing 😆

Rescued, thriving, and reminding us all that snacks fix (almost) everything.

🌿🐨 On 12-May, we celebrated the official opening of the Food for Wildlife Garden at Barossa Bushgardens — a fantastic community collaboration supporting our local wildlife and the carers who look after them.

The Food for Wildlife Garden provides a safe and sustainable source of browse and food for wildlife carers collecting native feed for animals in care. It offers an important alternative to roadside collection, helping reduce impacts on native vegetation while also improving safety for carers.

The organising of the beautiful new signage on the front of the garden was another wonderful example of the incredible community collaboration we see so often in the Barossa. Thanks to a generous donation from Adbri the Bushgardens team were able to have the signage professionally designed and manufactured, the Friends of Barossa Bushgardens provided funding for the sleeper posts, and finally the sign was installed with the support of Barossa Council.

Representatives and volunteers from Barossa Bushgardens, Barossa Wildlife Rescue, Friends of Barossa Bushgardens and staff from Adbri, as well as a couple of our rescue animals who will benefit from this amazing garden, all joined together to mark the occasion in a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate this important new resource.

A huge thank you to all the supporters of this project — Adbri, Barossa Council, Friends of Barossa Bushgardens, and especially the incredible Kym for all her work bringing this vision to life.

This garden is a truly valuable resource for rescued wildlife and the dedicated carers who work tirelessly to help them every day 💚🦘

From the tiniest beginnings to a personality that fills the night 🐾💕

Photo 1: Eden as a fragile little pinkie joey, safe in carer Deb’s hands — no fur, no fuss, just trust and a fighting spirit.

Photo 2: Fast forward, and Eden is all grown up… now a cheeky ratbag who rings the bell every single night demanding snacks like clockwork 🔔😂

Watching these little lives grow from something so delicate into bold, demanding characters is nothing short of magic. Huge credit to carers like Deb who make these journeys possible 💖

What an incredible night! 🎉🦘🦉

This month’s annual Barossa Wildlife Rescue Quiz Night was our biggest and most successful yet, raising an amazing $7,076 — a new Quiz Night record! 💚

The evening was packed with fun, laughter and community spirit, featuring our quiz competition, raffle, silent auction and popular wine wall. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our local businesses, sponsors and community members who continue to stand behind our wildlife rescue and rehabilitation work.

Funds raised from this event are vital in helping us continue rescuing, caring for and rehabilitating our precious native wildlife.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, attended, volunteered and supported the event in any way. Special thanks to Jess from BTS with Jess for being a fantastic MC and host for the evening — you helped make the night such a success!

And last but certainly not least, thank you to our fundraising coordinator Vanessa for all the work that went into organising and collecting donations, preparing all of the auction items, prizes and decorations, and setting up the venue. The night would not have been such a huge success without all your hard work 💚🦘

We are so grateful for the continued support of our community and volunteers 🐨💕

Grandma Stumpy is finally home🦎💚

Our beautiful (and very large!) shingleback skink, who we estimate could be up to 20 years old, was released back where she belongs at the end of March after a long rehabilitation journey with Barossa Wildlife Rescue.

She had been in care since early December, so it was a special moment when the kind people who first brought her in returned to take her home. Even better, she was released back onto the same property she knows so well, where a small group of fellow shinglebacks (all regulars!) call home too.

We’re happy to report she’s been warmly welcomed back by her old friends… and not all of them are lizards, apparently! 🐾

It’s always incredible to see these animals return to the wild where they thrive. Welcome home, Grandma Stumpy.

Meet Sprout, our newest Rufous Bettong 🐾

Sprout has quickly settled in and is doing all the very normal, very energetic bettong things - digging, foraging, and generally being adorable.

One small mystery remains: is Sprout a hermaphrodite Bettong? We do not have a confirmed s*x determination, and even our vets haven’t been able to say for certain yet. What we do know is that Sprout appears healthy, comfortable, and completely unbothered by the ongoing scientific uncertainty.

We’ll share updates as we learn more but for now, we’re just enjoying getting to know Sprout and watching them grow.

🚨 Missing Parrot - Can You Help? 🚨

This beautiful little parrot came into the care of Barossa Wildlife Rescue on Tuesday after being found on Homburg Road, Tanunda. He reportedly flew down and landed straight on someone’s shoulder, which makes us believe he is very likely a much-loved pet. 💙💚❤️

We believe he may be a Scarlet-chested Parrot, and he is super friendly and comfortable around people.

If you or someone you know is missing a parrot matching this description, please get in touch with Barossa Wildlife Rescue.

Help us spread the word and reunite this little guy with his family 🦜💕

Little Evie’s journey is one of resilience and round-the-clock dedication💛

A few weeks ago, Evie came into care after her mum was sadly injured and had to be euthanised. At just 222g, she was barely above the 200g threshold - the lowest weight at which we will attempt to hand-raise these fragile pinkies.

Despite the odds, Evie is proving to be a little fighter. She’s already gained 40g and is doing incredibly well, though she still has a long road ahead.

Behind the scenes, carer Deb has been nothing short of amazing - waking every three hours, day and night, to feed and toilet her. It’s a demanding routine, but one that’s giving Evie the best possible chance at life.

We’re so proud of them both 💕

Caught! Milo sleeping on the job 😴

This was one of Milo’s less destructive days back when he was still small enough to go to work with carer Chelsea.

Wrapped up in his cozy blanket, snacks nearby, looking like the most innocent angel, but don’t let it fool you. This was just a brief intermission between sessions of chaos💥
