You've seen the glitz and glamour from big Legacy Week PR machines. It's impressive, hey, but somewhat impersonal, 'managed' even and certainly big budget.
Today we give you something very different as our first Legacy Week story.
Two hours from Launceston, under the granite gaze of
South Mount Cameron, on the edge of the Ringarooma River and with the Furneaux Group a mere stone's throw away, sits Gladstone.
It's a former mining town, steeped in forestry and famed for its DMR era of road builders. "Gladdy" is the service village for the mighty Rushy Lagoon pastoral empire; home and cultural centre for the pairrebeener/Trawlwoolway people, home too for the mighty Wedgetail Eagles, coastal cattlemen and a hotspot for thylacine sightings.
For a hamlet of approx 150 people, Gladstone has a huge heart and, at a time of significant uncertainty and upheaval, deep pockets.
The amazing ladies at Gladstone General Store offered to sell Legacy bears on Friday. Today, they banked $160 worth of sales and reckon they'll need more bears.
A small country village. Less than 150 residents. Coping with their own financial uncertainty, supporting families they may never meet with true rural generosity.
Thank you, Gladstone.
Amy, please post to the community chat on our behalf and with our genuine gratitude.
