📣 CALLING ALL YOUNG PEOPLE — JOIN THE headspace KUNUNURRA YOUTH REFERENCE GROUP! 📣
Do you want a real say in how youth mental health services are run in the East Kimberley? The headspace Kununurra Youth Reference Group (YRG) is now taking applications.
The YRG is a group of local young people who work alongside our team to make sure headspace Kununurra stays relevant, safe, accessible and deadly for young people in our community.
What you'll do 🔹 Help shape and improve headspace Kununurra services 🔹 Give advice on social media, campaigns and resources like factsheets, brochures and radio ads 🔹 Contribute to local projects and events — and lead your own, with our support 🔹 Peer support and mentoring 🔹 Speak up for young people in the East Kimberley
What you'll get ✅ Free training — centre induction, orientation, mental health literacy [ any extra training e.g. project management, cultural responsiveness] ✅ New skills for your resume, study or future career ✅ An honorarium of $50 voucher in recognition of your time and contribution ✅ Connections with other young people, headspace staff and community stakeholders ✅ A safe, supportive and inclusive space where your voice is valued — with clinical oversight and one-on-one support to reach your own goals ✅ Recognition and celebration of your contribution
Who can apply 👥 Young people aged 16 to 25 at the time of applying 👥 We want the group to reflect our community — all genders and ages, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, multicultural communities, LGBTQIA+ young people, and young people with a broad range of life experiences. You don't need any qualifications or experience in mental health — just an interest in making things better for young people. 👥 There are positions available.
What's involved 📅 Meetings once a month for 1.5 hours at headspace Kununurra, 144 Konkerberry Drive 📅 Members are asked to attend scheduled meetings, share information with the group and have regular access to the internet and a device 📅 We know life gets busy — if you need to take a break or step back, just have a yarn with our team and we'll work it out 📅 Applicants under 18 will need parent or guardian consent, and all members will be asked to consent to participation, media (photos/videos/quotes) and emergency medical support 📅 Recruitment involves application form and an informal chat and any checks required, e.g. Working with Children Check.
