During Term 3 Wilmot Road Primary School students enjoyed an exciting local industry Immersion Day, visiting Gouge Linen and Garment Service and Shepparton Foodshare.

The day began with a tour of Gouge, where students learned about the important role the company plays in providing linen and garment services throughout Victoria and country New South Wales. They were fascinated to see how the business operates and the processes involved in servicing such a large region. 🫧

After lunch, the group visited Shepparton Foodshare. Students were amazed to learn about the volume of food donated and distributed to support individuals and families in need across the community. They were particularly interested in discovering the many organisations and schools that benefit from Foodshare's services and the positive impact it has on the Greater Shepparton region. 🫑🫐🍎

Thank you to both Gouge and Shepparton Foodshare for welcoming the students and providing such valuable learning experiences. These visits offered a wonderful insight into the importance of community support, sustainability, and helping others. 🫶

Congratulations to winning artist Jye! 🎸

Jye, a Banmira Specialist School student , attends Pit Stop where our team taught him to weld. Jye creates fantastic sculptures with recycled metal and recently won the Senior Sculpture category in Shepparton South Rotary Club's Young Picasso art competition with this amazing guitar.

Our team couldn't be more proud of you and all the Pit Stop crew who entered Young Picasso 2026. Well done everyone! 👏🏻

Laptops with Love – Making Connections Overseas 🌍

While Laptops with Love primarily supports young people in our community so that they can continue their education studies and career pathways, we were pleased to make a donation of a laptop through a special local connection.
Local woman Lorna Gillespie met the founders of Ankizy Gasy while volunteering in Madagascar. They later returned home and established a NGO, focused on the wellbeing of children with a focus on helping build literacy skills.

We recently received this lovely feedback.
“Thank you to GSLP from Ankizy Gasy, the laptop will become part of our computer room, where we have a team of “computer nerds” happy to teach young people to build their digital skills.

A special thank you to Lorna for the incredible work you continue to do both locally and internationally to make a positive difference in young people’s lives.

💙 A big thank you to Bega Group!

Throughout the month of August, Bega Group held a Personal Care and Warm Blanket Drive to support people who attend Family Haven.

We are incredibly grateful for the generous donations received throughout the month, which will make a meaningful difference to those in our community who need a little extra support.

Shepparton East Primary School – Shepparton News Tour

We had a fantastic time visiting the Shepparton News office with the Grade 6 students! A big thank you to Geoff and Bella for taking the time to show us around the different departments and explain how a newspaper comes together, as well as how technology has changed the industry over time.

The students were also thrilled to receive a surprise sneak peek of the school's 150th anniversary celebration video that the Shepparton News is creating. What a special experience!

The Get Active Kids Voucher Program is open! 🎾

Get in quick as applications for a voucher will close at 10am on 13 October or earlier if the budget allocation is fully exhausted.

Victorian families with a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card can apply for up to $200 to support their child’s sport and active recreation activities.

Grade 1/2 students from Shepparton East Primary School recently attended a tour at FOOTT Waste Solutions. The tour was a great way to expand on their current Enquiry topic – Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. ♻

The students saw first-hand how waste is collected, processed, packed, transported, recycled & manufactured into new products. All right here in Shepparton! 🗑

A big thank you to the generous team at FOOTT for their time in providing an engaging tour for students and to Shepparton East Primary School for reaching out to Lighthouse to organise a tour to complement their current Enquiry topic. 👷
