The Lighthouse team recently swapped desks for gumboots, spending time out in nature planting about 450 native plants in the swamp lands behind the Botanical Gardens. 🌳

Hosted by the fantastic Dan from Goulburn Murray Landcare Network, the afternoon was all about connecting with the environment, giving back to Country, and contributing to the long-term health of our local ecosystem. 🌱

It was a great reminder of the impact we can make when we come together, one plant at a time. 🐝

Recently we were proud to support our valued partner Orange Sky Australia as they hosted a Volunteer Orientation or “Orange-tation” at our Family Haven Mooroopna.

Emma Anderson and Hayley Paterson delivered an inspiring and informative session demonstrating the laundry pod in use. The day saw 20 enthusiastic community members attend, with several signing up on the spot to become part of the Orange Sky volunteer team.

These dedicated volunteers will help support people across our community by providing access to free laundry services and just as importantly, enable genuine conversations and connection.

Orange Sky’s empowering and tailored place-based model, strongly aligns with everything we stand for at Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project - promoting care, connection, and earlier pathways to support for those who need it most.

Together in Greater Shepparton, this volunteer-led partnership has already achieved more than:
🧺 750+ loads of washing
💬 and hundreds of hours of meaningful, connected conversations

Thank you to our incredible project partners for making this possible:
Orange Sky Australia
St Alban's Anglican Church Mooroopna
Gouge Linen and Garment Service

🎉 Celebrating Our Volunteer Milestones - May 2026

This month, we are proud to recognise an extraordinary milestone and celebrate the dedication of Lighthouse’s longest-serving volunteer.

🌟 Adam Furphy - 11 years volunteering as Board Director and Board Chair

Adam was appointed Chair of the Lighthouse Steering Committee in September 2013, helping guide the vision that would see the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project formally incorporated in May 2015. Since then, his leadership, commitment and belief in community-led change have helped shape Lighthouse into the organisation it is today.

As Adam shared at the 2018 Collective Action Planning Meeting:

"One thing is certain, doing the same old thing will lead to the same old outcomes. We are seeking big improvements and that will require big changes in how we value young people and put them at the heart of the community. As a community, we think we can do better."

For more than a decade, Adam has championed opportunities for children, young people and families across Greater Shepparton, helping drive meaningful change and stronger outcomes for our community.

Thank you, Adam, for your vision, leadership and unwavering commitment to Lighthouse and the Greater Shepparton community.

👏 Please join us in celebrating Adam’s incredible contribution and 11 years of volunteer service.

The Pit Stop crew have been getting hands-on and creative this term.

Over the first few weeks, participants have learned the basics of working with metal. Crafting their own copper dog tags and stamping them with their names. 👨‍🏭

Now they’re stepping things up, starting to shape metal flowers and building confidence in the welding bay. 🌸

It’s been awesome to see skills grow week by week! 👏🏼

We can't wait to see what they create next! 🫶

Yesterday I joined the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project at Gowrie Street Primary School for the launch of their Greenhouse and Native Garden.

These innovative growing systems will produce more than 250kg of fresh fruit and vegetables each year for students and families, while also supporting hands-on learning, student wellbeing and stronger community connections.

Students helped co-design a cultural garden that brings food education into the classroom in a really meaningful way.

$20,000 from the Federal Government's Stronger Communities Programme helped make this happen, alongside contributions from local Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, volunteers and local businesses.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this project to life.

We’re excited to be running CAS x Ceramics by Maison with the OLLY crew this Term at the Shepparton Art Museum.

Last week we kicked things off with a taster session, and the creativity was already flowing, check out some of the awesome student work. 🫶

Across the term, young people will get hands-on with clay, building skills week by week, from pinch pots and slab work through to wheel throwing and designing their own final pieces 🏺

We are loving working with Ceramics By Maison and the Shepparton Art Museum team! 🥳
