We recently had the wonderful Mamma Knows West team visit us to discuss our need for more local training dog carers in Melbourne.

A training dog carer provides a loving environment for the Seeing Eye Dog in training to live in when school is done for the day, and also needs to be able to drop off and pick up the dog from our Kensington location from Monday to Friday.

If you'd like to learn more, or if you want to see what the team got up to during their visit, be sure to check out the link!

We visited Vision Australia's Seeing Eye Dogs campus and saw firsthand the incredible work being done. Now they're looking for foster carers to help future Seeing Eye Dogs on their journey.

Bek, Ben & Sven explore Queensland together!

Meet volunteers Bek Brindle & Ben Johnston, first-time puppy carers to Sven in Brisbane. Bek recently joined us on the Seeing Eye Dogs Show podcast to share their experiences of puppy caring. Bek and Ben are new to Queensland, and bringing Sven into their lives has motivated them to explore their new city and make connections in the community.

Bek is a corporate events manager, and Ben is an engineer, so when they're not working in their busy careers, Sven brought some fun adventures and cuddles to their lives. From park and beach walks, busy markets and public transport, to coffee catch-ups with other puppy carers, raising a puppy added excitement to their lives, which helped give Sven foundational skills and confidence to be in a variety of environments. Sven has now begun his training at Seeing Eye Dogs, thanks to the amazing guidance and support from his puppy carers.

As we continue our reflection on volunteer stories for , today we look back at Steven.

Puppy carer Steven Kroger has been volunteering with Vision Australia and Seeing Eye Dogs since 2018. Steve volunteers helping people who are blind or low vision near his local Vision Australia office, raising puppies, and fostering Seeing Eye Dogs from young puppies to working dogs for short lengths of time. He's always found with a smile on his face, kibble in his pouch, and with a dog at his side.

Steve is also a parmigiana reviewer and loves attending theatre and music events. He's recently puppy cared for Lyric, who is about to begin his formal training. He has many stories to share about the wonderful volunteer work he's done for Seeing Eye Dogs. We can't thank Steve and all of our volunteers enough!
