🌳 Let’s Bring More Trees and Greening to Kelmscott! 🌳

The WA Government’s Let’s Grow Greening Grants program is now open, offering funding from $500 up to $100,000 for urban greening projects across Perth and Peel.

This is a fantastic opportunity for local schools, community groups, sporting clubs, not-for-profit organisations and other community organisations in Kelmscott to secure funding for projects that increase tree canopy, improve public spaces and make our suburb greener, cooler and more attractive.

Kelmscott has plenty of locations that could benefit from additional trees and landscaping, including parks, community facilities, transport precincts, walking and cycling routes, verges and neighbourhood gathering spaces.

We encourage local organisations to consider applying and putting forward ideas. The more applications that come from Kelmscott, the better chance we have of attracting investment into our community and increasing the number of trees and green spaces throughout the suburb.

If you’re involved with a local group, now is a great time to start thinking about what projects could make a difference šŸ™

WARNING: Kelmscott currently under improvement āš ļøšŸ˜Ž

Driving through Kelmscott this morning and it’s honestly hard to keep up with how much is happening.

You’ve got:

- Last Slice well and truly in the thick of construction

- Activity kicking off around the old Coventry site

- Tradies on site at the old Station Master’s House ahead of its new life as a gallery for the Armadale Society of Artists

- Dan Murphy’s getting a fresh external facelift

There were even tradies up a ladder working on Red Roster šŸ˜‚

Still plenty more to do - but step by step, Kelmscott is on the up.

Later than originally expected, but this is great news for Kelmscott.

Tony Buti’s office has confirmed that a tender has now been accepted for the renovation of the historic Station Master’s House, with works expected to be completed by late October.

The building will become a display and retail space for the Armadale Society of Artists.

While the delays were frustrating, it’s good to finally see movement on bringing this important local building back to life and giving it a community purpose once again.

Step by step, our Kelmscott is on the up šŸ’Æ

Oppose the sale and rezoning of Water Corp Lots 1 & 65 Fancote Street, Kelmscott.

To be clear - this is not about opposing the aged care development planned for land already owned by the developer. The concern is the proposed expansion into additional Water Corporation land that is currently intended to form part of a future community environmental corridor.

The WA Planning Commission is considering a proposal to rezone Lots 1 and 65 Fancote Street so the land can be sold by Water Corporation for development.

At the same time, Council is already progressing plans for the area to become a landscaped, community-accessible living stream corridor connecting through to the river. This planned project includes Council-owned Lot 39 together with Water Corp Lots 1 and 65.

If the rezoning proceeds, the opportunity for council to create this shared natural space could be lost permanently.

Why this matters:

- The existing open drain could be piped and filled in instead of being transformed into a landscaped waterway.

- A funded Council project already in the design phase could be undermined.

- The connection between Lot 39 and the river would effectively be cut off.

- Native vegetation and mature trees may be removed.

The authorities may not be formally asking for public feedback at this stage, but that shouldn’t stop the community from making its voice heard.

Please consider emailing your objection to the rezoning and sale of Lots 1 and 65 Fancote Street:

Council is doing its part - now the community needs to speak up as well.

Please share with family, friends and local residents.

Last day to have your say āœļø

A proposal is currently out for public comment through DevelopmentWA for construction of a 'Vibe' petrol station on the small portion of land opposite Spudshed - to the south.

Irrespective of individual views, ANY new development of this scale should deliver a high standard of design and contribute positively to the public realm. At a minimum, this means:

* A colour palette and materials that complement the local area
* Meaningful landscaping integrated into the streetscape
* High-quality public art or mural treatments on highway-facing walls.

Have your say before May 12 - it’s quick and easy.

Even those who are supportive should consider how our community could get the most out of it.

Let’s make sure Kelmscott gets a result that reflects community expectations for its main corridor.

Submissions are assessed on planning grounds - such as design and aesthetics, streetscape and landscaping quality, amenity impacts, traffic and access management, pedestrian and active transport safety, and the cumulative impact of over-concentrating a single land use within the town centre and its effect on the character and function of the corridor.

Simply saying "Kelmscott has too many..." won't cut it.

Good morning Kelmscott ā¤ļø

Just a friendly reminder that this page exists for a clear purpose - to identify issues and opportunities facing our town, bring the community together, and focus on solutions, outcomes, and campaigning. It’s also about showcasing everything that makes Kelmscott a great place to live, work, and invest.

We encourage respectful, constructive discussion. Comments that unfairly target individuals or organisations (especially where they’re not responsible for the issue being discussed), or simply run our community down don’t help anyone - and will be removed.

Please also remember that this page and the work behind the scenes is volunteer run, and your patience and understanding is appreciated.

If you want to make a difference:
Be kind. Be engaged. Get involved. Volunteer. Take part in your community.

If you have a limited time to contribute, save time commenting on a post and use it to pick up the phone, write an email or have a conversation - this is direct action and direct action is what helps influence change. That said, your comments and engagement are extremely appreciated ā¤ļø

This is a democratic space - we encourage everyone to read the information shared, click the links, and form your own views. That’s how we keep the focus on the issues that matter most to our community and our town centre.

Let’s keep things constructive and keep moving Kelmscott forward.

Have a great day, solidarity with you all šŸ¤
