The Citizens Foundation (TCF) and Japan International Cooperation Agency - Advancing Quality Alternative Learning (JICA-AQAL) have signed a Technical Letter of Understanding to address one of Pakistan’s most urgent challenges: the 26 million children out of school.

This collaboration will open new pathways for learning through:
✅ Accelerated Learning Programmes to mainstream children back into schools ✅ Vocational & technical skills for stronger livelihoods
✅ Adult literacy initiatives
✅ Integrated Learning & Skills (ILS) programmes for employability

Together, we are committed to advancing SDG 4: Quality Education, with a special focus on empowering girls who are most affected.

Through this partnership, JICA will provide technical expertise to strengthen TCF’s non-formal education model, helping us deliver scalable and impactful results across Pakistan. Because every child deserves a second chance at learning, and a brighter future.

Due to recent flooding, some of our Government Partnership & TCF schools in Narowal, Kasur, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Kot Momin, and Muzaffargarh have experienced water in and around their compounds. As per the Government of Punjab’s directive, schools in these districts will remain closed until 7th September. Alhamdulillah, all assets are secure and lives are safe. Meanwhile, the majority of other schools in Punjab are open, and we are delighted to welcome students back. We remain hopeful that the continuity of their learning journey will stay strong.

With flood warnings ahead in a few areas of Sindh, we are taking swift and careful measures to keep our children and their learning spaces safe. On Friday and Saturday, our schools in Sindh will remain closed as a precaution. At the same time, our teams are relocating books, furniture, and equipment to safer locations, ensuring that classrooms are protected and ready to welcome students back once the situation has passed. Our foremost priority, as always, is the safety and well-being of our children, and the continuity of their learning.
