Uplift Fair Trade has a vision to educate and empower people here in Australia to ‘uplift’ people all over the world who are poor and marginalised. We exist to help abolish the industry for human trafficking and slavery through Fair Trade. Hope

While Australians live in prosperity, over one-sixth of the world’s population – 1.2billion people – are still living in extreme poverty. With slavery, di

sease, disability and lack of education and healthcare rampant in the world, it is easy to lose hope. But together, we can bring hope to the hopeless, our prosperity bringing about a more just world. Our Role as Consumers

Many Australians are unaware that our actions as consumers actually have a direct impact on the livelihoods of people living in poor communities. Without humbly opening our eyes and our hearts to the reality of the role we play in inequality, we will never be moved to act. Take Action

The good news is that many people are beginning to understand this and are helping their community understand and take action as consumers. But sometimes it can be hard to know how to help others on the journey towards making different, more ethical choices. You may have heard of Fair Trade, but have trouble accessing products that are ethical, empower producers and end the cycle of hopelessness. The Answer to Injustice

Uplift want to help you become the answer to injustice. We do this through guest speaking and education, by making Fair Trade products more accessible through our Fair Trade Events and by engaging churches, schools, businesses and communities with practical change through ethical awareness.

In today’s world, it’s possible to place an order with someone on the other side of the world without ever meeting them.
But that’s not how we choose to do Fair Trade.
Uplift Fair Trade has built relationships with artisan groups across Nepal and beyond. While technology helps us stay connected, nothing replaces the opportunity to sit together, share stories, see the work being created, and deepen the relationships that make Fair Trade possible.
Last month, Anna & Sean travelled to Nepal to reconnect with many of the artisan groups whose work fills our shelves. It was a chance to celebrate long-standing partnerships, witness incredible craftsmanship firsthand, and better understand the opportunities and challenges facing these communities today.
Fair Trade isn’t just about the products we sell.
It’s about the people behind them.

Last month, Anna travelled to Nepal to reconnect with the artisan groups behind many of the handmade products you’ll find at Uplift Fair Trade.
Along the way she met talented knitters, weavers, felt makers and craftspeople, listened to their stories, and gained a deeper understanding of the communities we have been supporting through Fair Trade partnerships for many years.
We’re delighted to share that one of Anna’s photographs, capturing an artisan at work, has been featured in the latest issue of Discover The Blue Mountains magazine as part of an article reflecting on the journey.
For us, Fair Trade has always been about more than beautiful handmade products. It’s about relationships, connection, and recognising the skill and humanity behind the things we buy.
If you spot a copy of the magazine around the Blue Mountains, have a read and take a journey with us to Nepal.

Handmade means different things to different people.
For some, it’s the quality and attention to detail that comes from making something slowly and with care.
For others, it’s the connection to the person who created it, the traditions behind it, or the knowledge that their purchase is supporting skilled artisans and Fair Trade communities.
At Uplift Fair Trade, handmade is all of these things and more.
It’s a reminder that the objects we surround ourselves with can carry stories, skills and human connections that mass-produced items often can’t.
We’re curious…
What does “handmade” mean to you?

Every handmade item has a story.
The story of the person who made it.
The skills they have spent years developing.
The traditions they are helping to preserve.
The community their work supports.
At Uplift Fair Trade, these are the stories that inspire us every day. They remind us that behind every handcrafted item is a human connection.
This Winter Magic Festival, we’re sharing another collection of remarkable stories through Tea & Thread.
Filled with photographs, recipes, handicrafts and personal reflections, the book celebrates the lives, resilience and cultural traditions of 17 Middle Eastern women who have experienced displacement and life as refugees.
As a special Winter Magic offer, spend $100 or more in store and we’ll gift you a complimentary copy of Tea & Thread to take home and enjoy, while stocks last.
If you’re visiting Katoomba this weekend, we’d love to welcome you into the store and share some of the stories behind the products on our shelves.

Every purchase is a vote for the kind of world we want to live in.
Most of us have been taught to ask: “How much does it cost?”
Fair Trade encourages us to ask a few more questions.
Who made it?
Were they paid fairly for their work?
Will it last?
Does it help preserve traditional skills and craftsmanship?
Would I feel good knowing the story behind it?
These questions don’t just help us make more conscious purchasing decisions. They help us recognise the people, skills and stories that are often hidden behind the products we buy.
At Uplift Fair Trade, these are the conversations we have every day. Because beautiful products are even more meaningful when you know the story behind them.
Which of these questions resonates most with you?

Talent is everywhere. Opportunity isn’t.
One of the principles of Fair Trade is creating opportunities for people who may otherwise face barriers to earning a sustainable income through their skills and craftsmanship.
The artisans we work with are weavers, knitters, painters, potters, jewellers and makers. Their talent is undeniable. What Fair Trade helps provide is access to markets, fair payment and the opportunity to build livelihoods through the work they do best.
When you choose Fair Trade, you’re choosing products made with skill, creativity and care. You’re also supporting a trading system that values people and their potential.
Because everyone deserves the opportunity to share their talents with the world.

When you pick up a handmade item, what do you see?

A warm pair of colourful socks.
A felt finger puppet.
A intricately woven shawl.
A beautifully handcrafted gift.
What you don’t always see are the hours of skill, patience and care behind it.
The knitter who spent 28 hours creating a single jumper.
The artisan carefully stitching each detail by hand.
The weaver preserving techniques passed down through generations.
The maker whose work helps support their family and community.
At Uplift Fair Trade, every product carries a story. Not just of where it came from, but of the people who made it.
This Winter Magic Festival weekend, we invite you to slow down, look a little closer, and discover the stories behind handmade at our Katoomba store.
As a special thank you, we’ll be gifting a complimentary copy of the book ‘Tea & Thread’ with purchases over $100 (while stocks last).

Winter has arrived, and so have some beautiful new knitwear pieces.
We’ve recently refreshed our knitwear display and unpacked a collection of new hand-knitted jumpers, cardigans, scarves and winter accessories, each made by artisan groups we work with through Fair Trade partnerships.
What we love about these pieces isn’t just how warm they are. It’s knowing that every stitch represents skilled craftsmanship, fairly paid work, and livelihoods supported through ethical trade.
If you’re heading to Katoomba this week, pop in and have a browse. There are plenty of new arrivals we haven’t even shared online yet.
Which piece would you be taking home?
